Are you sure they're skin tags?? Ds's molluscum, which started in his armpit, looked just like skin tags before they were diagnosed...

Go to gp or practice nurse and ask their advice - DH had his taken off by gp - very quick and easy and they can take biopsy if they think they might be dodgy. Play safe.

Yes, I would check with your GP, I had some removed by mine. He used what looked like a soldering iron or something - burned them off! But it didn't really hurt. I have more now though - I hate them, I keep getting little ones on my neck.

sfxmum · 04/06/2009 19:54

my gp told me I had to have them removed privately and asked if I would like a referral to a plastic surgeon

I went to a skin clinic on Harley Street where they quoted me £900 to remove my skin tags.

So then I went to GP and asked her to refer me to something like a Nuffield Hospital - I was happy to pay - cos I thought it would be cheaper.

She said, don't worry, I can do them for you at one of my minor surgery mornings! So, I had to wait about 6 months, but got them done free .

I've had some removed at the beauty salon/spa place.
She used an electrolysis type needle, and burnt them through their "neck". The burning causes the tag to drop off after a few days and you shouldn't touch them as they are sterile. I put little plasters over them until they were fully healed.

It cost about £15 and I had my neck, chest and underarms done. This was about 4 years ago.
Two babies later, I've got more threads, and would go and have them done again.

I used cotton to get rid of one, many eons ago when I was young and bothered about blemishes to my perfection!

It did work!

Report
VoodooApocalypse · 04/06/2009 20:35

I couldnt tie it tight enough.

grimace at clippers!!

if you cut them off by whatever means they bleed a lot. I shaved one off and it seemed to bleed all flipping night. I panicked. tieing seems better.

I showed my doctor mine in panic and she did not offer to remove them

you don't want to know where I have one.. and it's annoying enough to get removed.. but in a place I don't tend to wave about.. and I could reach it if I tried to tie cotton round it!

Incidentally, many years ago I removed one with nail clippers and no ice cube. It was f-ing agony!

SoupDragon · 04/06/2009 20:43

There was no blood beyond what you'd get from a pin prick.

i developed MILLIONS when i was pregnant and they have not gone away! in my neck, throat, underarm. Yuck

I would not be able to do the clippers thing, never heard of the the thread thing, but will certainly raise it with the practice nurse.
