In a strange way, it's a good thing, the antibiotics thing, as it's a concrete complaint that will hopefully get him in trouble, and has spurred you to move to a not-crappy GP.

Bl**dy unbelievable. Good on you sticking to your guns. Don't know if I could of done it. Actually, if it means my child got better I would walk over hot coals!!!

What is the point of seeing a specialists if GP aren't going to co-operate. I have a friend who had the same problem but the GP just refused to prescribe more antibiotics because he didn't believe in long courses of antibiotics were good for children (15mnth old) and this was despite several letters from the ENT specialist.

I can't believe a GP could over-rule a Specialist decision on her treatment, which is what they are doing.... Could you get the Specialist to contact your GP and explain it is part of an ongoing 6 course treatment... it all seems wrong if that is what the hospital have told you is the way they want to treat her problem, esp if it could possibly affect her hearing....

i didn't read all the replies but this is an outrage....i didn't know if the get mad for you or cry for child....

find another doctor, no child should have to tolerate such neglect from a doctor...

I would certainly contact the consultant and get him to fax over something stroppy to your GP. Also to avoid any further bother ask for a prescription for the whole course and get them un-made up from the pharmacy. Then you can mix them yourself when you need them.

We do this whenever we go on holiday as its pretty much guaranteed that we end up in some strange GP's surgery explaining dd's whole medical history just to get a bottle of Anti-B's.

I was just going to suggest that you get the antibiotics unmade and make them up yourself.
My understanding is that you wouldn't actually poison your dd by giving her out of date antibiotics, but that you wouldn't be helping her as the made up antibiotics don't work if they've been made up for too long.

I hope you get sorted with your new GP. Ive recently changed surgeries as I felt like I wasnt getting any support with my ds1 who I think have behaviour problems.
Neither the GP or HV were of any use. I was told that as Id had severe PND that it was all my ault and I needed to set stricter rules!!
Since changing Ive had loads more support and apparantly I should be getting more treatment for my IBS which Ive had for 16yrs!!!!!

Could you get the Specialist to write out the rest the presciptions - you could even pick them up unmade at the hospital Pharmacy and make them up yourself - bypassing your Surgery altogther. This all seems really wrong that they are over-ruling a Specialists treatment of dd - esp as your GP has not been able to sort her out!

Right my turn to rant. Though I don't have as much reason.

I just spoke to NHS direct regarding ds having a ear infection/s for the past 3-4 weeks. He finished he last course of antibiotics on thurs and doesn't seem any better. If anything he has been worse the last 48hrs.

The doc told me it sounds like he has a viral ear infection and he will not prescribe him anymore antitbiotics. He said viral infections can take a few weeks to clear up and to give nurofen and paracetmol if he is uncomfortable.

DS has been on medised everynight for 14 days as it is the only way he can get any sleep. Calpol doesn't seem to help as much. Am already worried that ds will become (if not already) dependent on it to sleep.

So easy for the doctors to say they not the ones that are 3 mnths pregnant and sleep deprived.

Anyone got any advice on how to deal with viral ear infections and whether ds might become dependent on medised to sleep.

Aimsmum - My GP only gives me enough antibiotics to last me exactly at week. Down to the last 1ml. If your GP had any sense he would do the same thing and then there wouldn't be any waste.
