Leg Pains at night..... Dr is testing for Bone and Prostate Cancer......Am very scared

RTKangaMummy · 29/04/2005 22:59

DH has been having leg pain and lower back pain for last 2 weeks.

Dr thought it was Sciatica and slipped disc. But not now.

But as DH has the pain worse at night it is a symptom of cancer.

So today saw GP again and he immediatley sent him for blood tests at hospital

We are going again to GP on Tuesday.

I am really scared that he has prostate cancer and it has spread to bones in pelvis and left leg. So therefore has secondary bone cancer.

He doesn't have the back pain any more just in the leg.

Has anybody had any experiance of this?

Please help me?

Why don't they think it is sciatica or a slipped disc now?

I have sciatica and have had it since i was 17.

RTKM - sorry to hear this. Difficult when you;re worying but please remember that for every obvious explanation/conclusion that we jump to there are hundreds of other medical conditions that we have never even heard of, many of which have easy treatment etc. Easier said than done (I know - I am waiting the results of a brain scan) but try not to worry til you've got the results back. There's not much to be gained from it. Good luck and hugs.

Because he has no back pain

And it is really really bad at night

He has to get up and come downstairs to walk around to get rid of the pain

Cos it wakes him up and he is in agony.

Dr said Siatica goes away slightly when resting not gets alot worse

Thanks for hugs really need them atm.

I know it is just the urgency of the blood tests

GP keeps saying "sinister" when talking about it

It seems this NIGHT TIME PAIN is very common in cancers

RTKM you're in my prayers. I really hope that your fears are completely wrong.

RTKM - I can really sympathise, I don;t know if doctors realise the extent to which they put teh fear of god in you when they start talking about urgent tests.

AngelCakeUmm · 29/04/2005 23:17

RTKM how long have you got to wait for the blood tests now?

Report
hub2dee · 29/04/2005 23:18

Kanga, as if this month didn't hold enough in store for you already.

Easier for an outsider to say, but wait for the tests before presuming the worst, even if the symptoms / timing / worse at night might lead you think it is cancer.

Are you getting blood test results on Tuesday then ?

I know it must be so difficult not to worry(we all would secretly)
The fact that pain at night is a sign of c, doesn't mean much. Arthritis and rheumatism(excuse spelling)get painful at night, temperatures normally get worse at night, when you have a cold, you normally feel worse at night, etc etc etc.

Please don't panic!

Hope you feel better.

The blood tests will be back early next week

Dr said he wanted to see DH on tuesday afternoon

BUT if we go in afternoon then DS will be with us

and so DH made an appointment for the morning

Not sure if bloods will be back by then they were taken at the hospital path lab this morning @ 11.00 so no idea really

Dr wanted to see him to see how he was going on

GP has been very good

He came for home visit on Tuesday cos Dr was worried about DH rather than DH going to surgery.

Of course you're worried. It's good he's being investigated / screened etc. post away if it helps, maybe someone will recall similar symptoms in a friend or have specific relevant experience... but still, I wouldn't dwell on the worst until you get specific confirmation. Maybe you should get some sleep, Kanga... esp. if dh is in bed right now, and not pacing the pain off...

I'm sure there's a close neighbour / friend / client who would help you out for an hour Tuesday if needed, Kanga...

DH is in bed

HAs just taken his tablets

The really bad pain is around 3am when he gets up and walks it off.

May go up as well

Just needed to tell someone

Thanks for being there everyone

I phoned up West Middlesex hospital to ask about MRI scans

there is a 6 month waiting list for routine ones

BUT depending on what GP writes can be quicker

I asked about private and that is a week to wait so that is what we are going to do

It costs £900 but both of us could not wait 6 months and so will pay for private.

so sad that you have to pay for something which should be done asap when we already pay so much into it
fingers crossed for him, hope you both get some sleep
