Still in terrible pain after having the coil fitted 3 weeks ago, is this normal

I woke up this morning and up until about 1pm I honestly thought I was giving birth and did not know I was pg.

I have been bleeding for 22 days now and was in terrible pain. Went for a walk with the dogs after my morning shift at work and it has finally eased.

Is it normal to still be in this level of pain or do I need to see someone??

Thanks

I'd see someone - when I had mine fitted I had no pain after about 2 days.

I was at the clinic last week for a 'chat' about it and I mentioned I was still getting pain with it and was told that it was normal although they couldnt expain what was causing the pain. I havent had it as bad as today though, this was unbearable almost and I have a high pain threshold.

You might have an infection. I had one after my coil was fitted. Get it checked out by a GP who may prescribe antibiotics if necessary. Poor you though.

They said to look for discharge etc but with having been bleeding for this long how would I know? Think I might go get it checked out. Thanks

See a doctor and ask for a scan to check its in the right place. At first, I had discomfort/pain with mine just before a period. Had a scan and it turned out it was ok but issue was design of coil.

I was warned about it perforating the uterus which is why a scan is good idea.

Good luck. I know how sore it can be.

Well, I seem to recall crippling pain with bleeding. I was unable to tell if I had discharge as there was a lot of blood. I think the best thing to do really is go and get it checked out. The antibiotics quickly helped to make me feel better. Please go to your GP, singyswife. Hope you feel better soon.

If you have an inverted womb ( ie, it tilts ) that can make having a coil in very painful, which they don't often tell women when they're having them fitted

I didn't know that.I have an inverted womb, but had no problems with coil.

Thank you for the reply sex on fire. I was hoping the bleeding would stop before I had to go see them, I dont fancy them checking that area when I am bleeding but I better get it checked out.

Thank you

My coil used to dig into the side of the side of my womb every time I bent over, it really hurt.

I had anticipated hormonal problems and irratic bleeding but I hadnt expected any of this. I just keep chanting 'I must persevere'.

Only you know how the pain is/how you can cope. If it is an infection you need abs asap. Can only advise - if it was me I would be doing something about it soon.

Was only joking about hounding.

I had mine taken out because I saw no point in contraception that seemed to keep me permanently on my period.

Report
singyswife · 05/03/2009 20:07

I havent had mine fitted for contraception but I know what you mean. One of the benefits I was looking forward to was no period and 'early night' whenever I fancied as I have been suffering with bleeding almost continually for 18 months now with the occasional break in between. Doesnt look like thats going to happen any time soon.

I had my coil in for about 6 months. During that time I honestly think I had about 4 days of not bleeding, and was off work alot with the constant pain I was in.

Was told by Dr repeatedly there was nothing wrong with me. I eventually asked to be refered (had bupa with dh's work), and within 2 weeks was told I had a severe infection and needed to get the coil removed immediately.

Please get it checked out and don't let them fob you off...can remember the pain and would never wish that on anyone.
