Dd1 possibly had it at 13 mo. She'd had a croupy cough the week before. The pin prick rash sounds about right. However, we were told by the G.P. that lots of other viruses look exactly like rubella, so it could be something else. I'd keep her in just in case until it's gone. The only way to know for sure is to do a blood test.

Found this on a Medical website:

Symptoms
Children are not usually affected too badly, and often the first manifestation is the rash. This is a fine, pink rash spreading from the forehead and face downwards. The rash may last for 1 to 5 days. There are often some of the glands (lymph nodes) enlarged, especially behind the ears and on the back of the head. Adults often feel more unwell before the rash appears, and may have pains in the joints rather like arthritis.

HTH. It has an incubation period of 12-14 days, so your dd may have been in contact with it 2 weeks ago... if that helps you place where she got in from. The important thing is to keep her away from pregnant women.

My 13mth ds just had rubella. He was quite poorly for about 4 days before the rash came out with v high temp/cough. Rash is pinky-red as has been described here and starts on forehead/behind ears and spreads. Lymph glands swelling behind neck usually swings it for rubella diagnosis. You're infectious for about a week before and a week after the rash breaks out. Link below gives you all the info. What did doc say?

Whisking ds off for MMR this week!
