How do I get rid of my really bad wind?

Pawslikepaddington · 02/02/2009 20:43

It is really stinky and my stomach feels red raw internally and bloated all the time (I should be eating activia!), but you can feel/see it deflate when I release the wind (it will bloat again in 15-20 mins). It really is sore, and is starting to make me feel sick all the time. What can I do to get rid of it?

Wind-eze?
Antacid tablets

I have no idea, but it really hurts! My bowels don't hurt though, just my stomach above my hips to below my ribs. Have gone from a size 8 to a 12 in the past year-could it be that? I am losing it, but it is v slow. Peppermint tea does seem to soothe it a little come to think of it. Thank you.

Will try wind-eze, it is so embarrassing during the day, as it parp parp parps as I walk along, no matter how much I try not to, and smells really awful!

My dh suffers with this sort of thing. He does this.

Get on the sofa, lean over the arm of the sofa on your tummy and put your hands on the floor. The thinking here is that gas rises and so bum up in the air higher than your gut and with the pressure will help release the wind.

Its easier than doing the headstand the doctore recommended too!

Charcoal tablets are supposed to be good too

Thanks guys-it is so embarrassing-I'm still in my twenties and quite in to my health (well, ok, I don't exercise gym-wise, but do cycle for an hour a day) and diet, so am not a typical farter IYSWIM.

rub the arch of your foot (always works for me)

does it happen often ... It did with me and I found out I was a coeliac.

I used to look pregnant (about 7-8 months!) and would get offered seats on the tram (every cloud...!)

Try ginger - make ginger tea by boiling chunks of the fresh stuff for 20 mins, then add honey (it's hot, mind - as in peppery). Or eat stem ginger (usually in syrup, I think?). Chinese medicine says it's good for wind.

Also you should try a glass of aloe juice first thing every morning as it's very soothing and healing for the gut. Drink about 60 ml then nil by mouth for 20-30 mins to let it do its work undisturbed.

Huge hugs and sympathy for you and your sore tummy.

has it been going on for long?

Irritable bowel syndrome?

Wheat intolerance?

Report

It has been going on for about 6 months I think, but only recently is it really putting me off food etc (I already feel full/sick because of the mass of wind in my tummy). Where would I get some aloe juice? Sainsburys or health shop? Have yogurt covered ginger-would that work? Yuk to the taste tho! (he he!). Should I try cutting out any foods to see if it helps? Thank you for all this advice!

I've found that one of those actimel drinks a day does wonders for my whole digestive system - I really notice the difference if I don't have them for a few days!

I would definately cut out foods. Apparently if you don't eat even a grain of something for 5 days and then try some of it on it;s own, then wait and see if you react that's a good indication.

It's not normal to react like that. And don't get fobbed off with IBS i did for years.

So if I lay off wheat etc for a week (have had a panini today and some biscuits and it is BAD and V V sore), and then milk for a week but try wheat-do it that way? My mum used to swear by Actimel!

Oh, Noonki, sorry, didn't answer your first question-it happens every single day-it wakes me in the night 2-3 times too.

following on from the earlier over-the-sofa exercises, try kneeling, then sitting back on your heels, open legs wide, lean forward try to rest chest on floor, with arms outstretched. try to to keep bum on heels at the same time.

excellent for relieving stuck wind.

i'd see a doctor, as it sounds like some sort of food intolerance.

Thanks guys. My doctor is so sick of me now-dd got every virus going last term so he thinks I'm a hyperchondriac freak. However, we hadn't seen him for 2 years prior to that so can't be that bad!

you prob need to see your gp 1st to rule out anything more serious especially if this is a newish thing(eg intestinal blockage, diverticulitis, low thyroid activity)then try dietary measures if all else ok

Well at least I know it could be a problem as opposed to me just being smelly! He he! At first I thought it was too much fruit, then poss a combination of eating fruit and drinking coffee, then when I didn't drink coffee for a while I thought maybe it was eating too much, then nibbling too much but not having enough carbs, so have decided I will defo see the doctor, as I can't pin it down to an eating/drinking habit, and I don't drink alcohol v often (probably every 1-2 months), so it is nothing to do with alcohol intake. Will be un-stinky soon!
