DArling little dd 28 mths has been teething 2nd molars and got 3 through not too much bother, bit of pain, bit of red cheeks and bit of red bum which cleared with chamomile and plenty of fresh air.
Lately have been washing with water and mild baby soap, fresh cloths, drying and using metanium when looks bad
last 2 days her bum has been clear and lovely
Tonight she pooed, cried instantly so I whipped off her nappy and she had blistered, the poo smelt like cat poo and her bum and thighs are red raw and down her legs she has a little red speckled rash, inside thighs and inside knees
She was in extreme pain, metanium has helped her but I needed to give her nurofen it was that bad

Could it be something in her food? Allergy?
A,m grasping at straws as I know she is still teething but it seems a bit much and different from what she is usually like.
No obvious diet changes though either....

gosh piffle that sounds appalling. don't know what to suggest. dd2 has had a sore bum with teething (she's 23 mths) but it does sound extreme. can you get an emergency appt with a gp?

she's gone to sleep finally with the nurofen, I may have to consider a GP appt tomorrow I guess as it is horrendous...

they may perscribe canasten HC. works wonders. dont be afraid to use it becauser of the hydrocortisone, as it'll only be used for a short period.

er, are you serious about the jalfrezi, piffle? if so, i'd mention that to the doc.

Report
piffle · 15/03/2005 22:18

totally serious! He is in for the high karate when he gets home.
But that aside, he says she only licked his fork and had a bit of rice.
I've done a bit of googling (as you do) and think that Dr is a good place to start, she has had some white pimples etc and it is so red and angry and tender it sounds a lot like thrush indeed.
thanks for all the help btw ladies

I don't think it's the Jalfrezi. My dd were eating this sort of stuff quite often at this age with no side effects.
Give her some 'live' natural yoghurt which should settle her stomach.
In dd's nursery, if any of the children were sore like this, they would sit them in a salt bath which worked wonders.
Poor love!

natural yoghurt, dd already eats plain bio live yoghurt with mashed banana or pureed fruit is it more of this that I need to give her?
Salt bath, I may well use a mild saline on her when I change her before I head off to bed...
Thx again

A lot of people say not to use it but vaseline worked better than anything on my dd.... especially if she sleeps through th enight and is in the same nappy for a while.

I think thrush and other bacterial infections can live in the gut quite normally and just flare up once in a while when they are pooed out and can infect a sore patch. I might be wrong but this was the impression I was given by my doc and HV when dd had recurrent infections from her evil teething poos. Hope you get it sorted. The docs gave me sterile water in sachets to wash her with (was already using camomile tea flannels) and prescribed metanium or fucidin ointment. We ended up on antibiotics once though. Ask them to take a swab to be checked. My doc thought dd had thrush and it turned out to be something completely different and the treatment cream (fucidin) was completely inappropriate. Good Luck. I hope the docs can help.

this morning her bum looks much better, aside from the area where the elastic caught her leg and rubbed it,
Phew not sure what caused it though
am off to docs anyway just in case
Cheers
