I thought the Fag free for 2005 thread was getting a tad long so this is for all of us joining that exclusive club today-National no smoking day!
In fact, its for purely selfish reasons that I'm hoping other Mums out there will join me in my battle-I'd like to get some buddies to help/moan to/share tips etc.
My 13m DS has just gone to sleep-3y DS at nursery-this is when I would normaly indulge in a nice cuppa and a fag-ooh, I'll just have one of those gorgeous lozenges instead-um,yummy!! See, I'm moaning already-be warned-still,at least I'm not having a fag,eh!!!

Good luck to everyone trying to give up.

I just wanted to recommend the Alan Carr book if anyone's finding it difficult to give up.
I used to be Fag Ash Lil but read the book and despite being very sceptical beforehand it worked a treat and I've been smokefree for 3.5 years.

Hi dropinthe - congratulatiosn on quitting! I gave up seven years ago and my top tip is to brush your teeth when you feel like having a fag. And don't talk about it too much in RL - change the subject if people ask if you're craving a ciggy - if you weren't when they asked, you soon will be if you dwell on the subject!

Good luck to you!

i was a 15 a day smoker until i fell pregnant- iv been smoke free for 8 months now my tip is to think about how you can justify spending all that money on cigs when you could spend it on your kids- think anbout all you could buy with the money you save like how long before you could buy a new dress or a car... it worked for me...those health ads where people are dying dont work- i just turned the tv over!! good luck

The ad with the wreath spelling MUM did actually work for me because have been feeling so damn guilty anyway. If I didnt have my kids I would probably smoke for the rest of my life as not a great deal of self respect but I couldnt bear the idea of leaving dad and boys without me(not being bigheaded-I just know how much they love me,you know/).
Hopefuly, that thought is going to get me through this time and maybe help any others quitting.

i must admit the adds never did anything to me in the past but the new ones did, ds(7) was starting to get upset and that did it for me,i remember being his age and having those horrible thoughts about my family dying and my mum never smoked so if he is going through that phase watching them adds and seeing me smoke could only add to his worries,he is a very sensitive little soul.
