I thought the Fag free for 2005 thread was getting a tad long so this is for all of us joining that exclusive club today-National no smoking day!
In fact, its for purely selfish reasons that I'm hoping other Mums out there will join me in my battle-I'd like to get some buddies to help/moan to/share tips etc.
My 13m DS has just gone to sleep-3y DS at nursery-this is when I would normaly indulge in a nice cuppa and a fag-ooh, I'll just have one of those gorgeous lozenges instead-um,yummy!! See, I'm moaning already-be warned-still,at least I'm not having a fag,eh!!!

Niddlynono Thu 10-Mar-05 20:56:37

Good luck to everyone trying to give up.

I just wanted to recommend the Alan Carr book if anyone's finding it difficult to give up.
I used to be Fag Ash Lil but read the book and despite being very sceptical beforehand it worked a treat and I've been smokefree for 3.5 years.

whymummy Thu 10-Mar-05 20:59:02

congratulations bexibooboo
mammya i've only just seen your message come on,you can do it again

dropinthe Thu 10-Mar-05 21:03:52

No I am sorry bit still dont understand-did you type bump in the other thread and it automatically put you to this one where I last posted??? I am so confused-just looked at a different thread where every one was typing bump/bumpity bump???????? WHY????
(AM SOOOO SORRY FOR BEING FICK!!)

HUNKERMUNKER Thu 10-Mar-05 21:08:19

Hi dropinthe - congratulatiosn on quitting! I gave up seven years ago and my top tip is to brush your teeth when you feel like having a fag. And don't talk about it too much in RL - change the subject if people ask if you're craving a ciggy - if you weren't when they asked, you soon will be if you dwell on the subject!

Good luck to you!

whymummy Thu 10-Mar-05 21:10:07

ROFL
ok,your thread had gone out of sight, anyone looking only at the active conversations would not see it so i went and typed bump just to bump it up,just a way of making it go on show

HUNKERMUNKER Fri 11-Mar-05 00:04:59

Bump

dropinthe Fri 11-Mar-05 09:23:06

Finally she getS it! Thank you for your patience whymummy-still not sure about seeing threads where lots of people are typing bump but lets leave that boring subject and now concentrate on my third no-smoking day!!!Hurray!!!

whymummy Fri 11-Mar-05 16:48:24

LOL hunkermunker
congratulations on 3rd smoking free day drop!

brandnew Fri 11-Mar-05 17:06:14

i was a 15 a day smoker until i fell pregnant- iv been smoke free for 8 months now my tip is to think about how you can justify spending all that money on cigs when you could spend it on your kids- think anbout all you could buy with the money you save like how long before you could buy a new dress or a car... it worked for me...those health ads where people are dying dont work- i just turned the tv over!! good luck

dropinthe Sat 12-Mar-05 08:27:43

The ad with the wreath spelling MUM did actually work for me because have been feeling so damn guilty anyway. If I didnt have my kids I would probably smoke for the rest of my life as not a great deal of self respect but I couldnt bear the idea of leaving dad and boys without me(not being bigheaded-I just know how much they love me,you know/).
Hopefuly, that thought is going to get me through this time and maybe help any others quitting.

whymummy Sat 12-Mar-05 09:26:43

i must admit the adds never did anything to me in the past but the new ones did, ds(7) was starting to get upset and that did it for me,i remember being his age and having those horrible thoughts about my family dying and my mum never smoked so if he is going through that phase watching them adds and seeing me smoke could only add to his worries,he is a very sensitive little soul.
