Adult acne - anyone successfully got rid of it?

I have worse skin than I did when I was a teenager - it's very depressing.

I know there's a stress element and it said in the Times on Sunday that it's caused by your skin reacting to testosterone caused by stress. Has anyone else had this and managed to get rid of it?

testosterone reaction is just one possibility. theres a possibility too that it is a general female hormone imbalance.

ketsugo works very well and is not contra-indicated in anything so is as safe to use as is possible

it works by balancing the oil production in your skin that hormone imbalances often cause

got to the doctor, he will test your blood to rule anyother things out and maybe put you on the pill?

I got rid of it though still get occasional spots. Totally hormone related in my case.

Omega 3 oils, zinc supplements and a mild topical treatment did it for me.

Can you buy that stuff in shops Misi, or do I have to get it online?

Maybe I should go to the doctor then. Don't want to go on the pill, though - last time I did that I got sort of random PMT coming on suddenly - very scary.

kathy, go to docs, you may have something like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

about a year ago, I started to get a red spotty nose . Not a good look!

I went to docs, he diagnosed acne rosacea in its early stages

because it hadn't spread (potentially all over the cheeks, nose and forehead ), I got it under control with a solution called "Zineryt" which you just roll over the affected area on a stick thingy

it will need to be used longterm but a relatively small price to pay

"Zineryt"

A solution of zinc (well known in treating skin conditions) and erythromycin (an antibiotic)

Hi,

I have polycystic ovaries and had awful adult acne as a result. I had an antibiotic lotion for 12 months which has completely cleared it up, i have been clear for nearly a yr now. Isaw results quite quickly (about 3 wks) but you have to finish the course or it comes back.
I had an oral course of antibiotics first but they made my stomach really upset so the dermatologist switched to the lotion.

I also use zineryt and erythromycin tablets.

Thanks for info everyone.
Gosh this is all sounding quite heavy. I do hope it's not PCOS.

roaccutane cleared it up on my back, but I still get it on my face. Nothing works (though has improved a bit during this pregnancy), and I've tried almost everything suggested on this thread. The pill used to help but since I've been ttc (or pregnant) for the last 8 years it's been a while since I've tried it!

I also used topical zineryt after getting an outbreak a couple of years ago (caused in my case by stress I think) and it worked really well for me - it was quite amazing actually. Initially I was prescribed another topical antibiotic (can't remember the name) and it gave me really bad dermatitis - so just bear that in mind if the first thing you try does not work for you or causes you problems.
I was really pleased that I spoke to my GP about it, rather than spending lots of money of expensive skincare treatments, which is what I was intitially inclined to do...

I have PCOS, and had bad acne. It cleared up when I altered my diet and took vitamins, I would second going to the drs and asking for a blood test.

Mine started during pg with ds3 which was 4 years ago. Have had it every since but went on holiday in August adn got a good tan and, hey presto, skin cleared up. Been back a month now and my skin is still clear and I'm not having to put anything on it, no make up etc.

Hellish trouble for years after having kids, never bothered much as a teen.

I eventually went onto Dianette I think after it was mentioned here I asked doc.

Works well on skin, only a few spots near period time, and not the big red pulsating things that fester under the surface for days. Also slowed growth of facial hair and calmed done PMT .

PS Dianette is an contraceptive pill.
