Has anyone tried acupunture. I am thinking about doing it, mainly for fertility and pain with my menstruel cycle. I am not sure if it will be a waste of my money or not. Has anyine had some experience with this?

Hi hope2be, I had acupuncture for a few years when I was ttc dc1 and I totally recommend it. It totally sorted out my painful periods and irregular ovulation, but it did take a few months to work and it is rather expensive. I also took Chinese herbs which are vile and cost a fortune but they increase the effectiveness of the treatment, apparently. Also the really positive thing was that I developed a lovely relationship with my gorgeous acupuncturist. Ttc was very difficult for us and he was wonderfully supportive and kind so worth it for that let alone the medical benefits. Anyway 4 yrs on I have dd1, dd2 and am preg with dc3 (eek) so for me it has been a total success.

There is a lot of evidence that acupuncture helps with fertility.

I see a top gynae privately- not for fertility- but he does endorse acup. for fertility problems.

Yes I had acupunctuer when trying to concieve ds4. I had had the contraceptive injection so was having no periods. We decided to try for another baby so I went to an acupuncturist a friend recomended. I started in October and had two cycles and concieved in January .
Like claudia said I had the chinese herbs too and cupping, which apparantly takes the toxins from your body. It was expensive but well worht it.
Goos luck. When I can afford it I might have some more to lose some weight

I had it when i was pg, to help calm the head to foot itching that i had for the final 6 weeks. it didnt cure me ( and she said she couldn't!!) but it did take the heat out of the itchingand was brilliantly relaxing. We are hoping to ttc dc2 soon and I intend to have some accupuncture to help us on our way as i have heard very good things.
good luck.

I believe that acupuncture has helped to regulate my cycle, which obviously goes some way to helping with fertility.

It's important to find a practitioner you like as part of the benefit of acupunture comes, I think, from talking to your acupuncturist about your worries and having someone just listen. I have seen 5 different people over the years and they had very different styles so it is probably worth asking around to try to find someone you will feel comfortable with.
