How do you know if you've been stung by a bee?

other than seeing it sting you obviously.

Lots of wasps around. Have a strange white bump on a finger that HURTS. Feel weird.

i think a bee leaves something behind, a little black sort of barb thing.

is it a blister? - could you have hurt your finger & not realized at the time?

Olihan Sun 07-Sep-08 20:25:29

They leave the sting in you and you have to scrape it out using the edge of a credit card instead of tweezers which squeeze the poison into you. There will also be a puncture mark if it didn't leave it's sting behind.

How do you know it was a bee if it is a sting?

Was it a bee or a wasp? Wasp will have obvious puncture mark and red raised area where poison stuff is on your finger.

I believe the proper response is:
£20 for a jar of honey

but

White bump on finger sounds suspicious

I'm allergic to bee stings so would be anti histamine'ing (which i'm sure is not a word) as a precaution.

no i don't see a barb or anything. It looks like a blister.

Could it be a wart? Bee/wasp stings hurt like hell.

I was stung by a bee once and it throbbed for about 4 hours. I could think of nothing but how painful it was for about 4 hours.

Ha ha £20 for a jar of honey. Funny!

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor Sun 07-Sep-08 20:44:35

ps and a wasp sting only hurts for about an hour I think.

KerryMum Sun 07-Sep-08 20:46:15

it really really hurts though

DisasterArea Sun 07-Sep-08 20:48:56

i'm sure at the time it really really hurts so you'd flap your hand around and swear. don't thnk it would be something you'd wonder about after the event IFSWIM.
have no idea what it could be otherwise so not a huge amount of help.

except

Vinegar for Vasps

and

Bicarb for Bees

so am thinking not a wasp or bee then. That's good! Thanks all! smile
