Pruners - you have much sympathy from me. I'm pregnant with DC3 and have been hospitalised and put on a drip twice. I finally gave in and accepted medication but even so it took me about a month of sleeping loads and not doing much to feel anywhere near to feeling strong. I had previously been very fit and healthy with what I considered a lot of stamina. It does take a while and all I can suggest is to sleep when you can and accept any outside help.

I'm nearly 20 weeks now and still feel sick but am hoping it will pass soon.

HTH and look after yourself x

Pruners - Do as little as possible for a couple of weeks or longer. Even if you're out of hospital, it doesn't mean you're strong and you may set yourself back. One of the rarely mentioned aspects of hyperemesis is the fatigue that comes with it. It nkocked me out.

Not easy with what sounds like a toddler. Is there someone who could take ds sometimes?

I always found 'doing stuff' put me right back to square one.

O. My GP did say ice cream isa perfect food if you can't eat much. They give it to anorexics, apparently. I did take this suggestion too much to heart though.

Tell DH I had it for 7 months striaght - most of it on bedrest and all of it off work - and he'd better pull his finger out if he doesn't want that to happen to you.

So much sympathy. Educate your DH - print him some stuff like this to read, and explain that you can't cope with being put under pressure to be okay, when you're not okay. You poor dear, I got so miserable about feeling sick and being sick and just being so damn exhausted. Just keep eating whatever you can keep down, and keep lying down with a DVD on to take your mind off the nausea and drift off to sleep with the DVD on, and some biscuits by the bed to keep blood sugar up, and don't push yourself. Let the house go to rack and ruin, let your DS watch CBeebies, and nurse yourself through.

Pruners you really have my sympathy.
When I was pregnant with my twins I felt awful for first 16 weeks - lifting my head off the kitchen table was a real effort.
Anyway I always felt much better when I had a sleep or rested and crap whenever I tried to fight it.
I tried to soldier on and now wish that I hadnt
because it made me more miserable.
Watch DVDS or read to your toddler and rest - it wont be forever.
Hope you feel better soon

I had this for 39 weeks and then overnight it lifted. Hard to describe how horrible it feels. Is there a time of day when you are less likely to throw up? If so try to eat as much as possible then. I used to eat plain boiled rice, preferably lying down. I was always worse in the evening , couldn't keep anything down. I remember trying to cook with a wet towel tied around my face to block the food smell.
I remember GP saying this won't happen again and of course it did. With a toddler it's even harder. Try to find ways to entertain the little one from the sofa.

Poor you, from experience its not uncommon for lots of women i met through blooming awful (ba, website for hg) to get pnd so you must look after yourself. IIRC the ba founder gave up after severe pnd indeed.

Advice is to choose things that you don't need to do post baby- you can build associations with the nausea (Psych prof assures me tere is a medical term for this, I cant recall it). For example my pram choice was limited to ones I didnt see with hg, the colour terracotta makes me feel queasy almost a decade on...

rest is all- there was talk at one point of a limnk between nausea and hg but not active for ba any more so not sure.

tbh i was about a month after birth before i got better with ds1 (the only admission) as pg itself is hard enogh- with the other 4 took maybe a few weeks once on meds

Huge sympathies, pruners. Are you back on the vitamins? You needs to make sure you're getting enough thiamine particularly if you've had HG. I'd just give yourself permission to feel thoroughly crap TBH, rest as much as you can and eat complex carbohydrate slow-release type foods.

oh pruners its shit isnt it?
I was admitted at 6 weeks pregnant 6 weeks ago for 24 hours for a drip and then I was bedridden for 3 weeks- I have never known such exhaustion and depression cos I was completely helpless.

If I am completeley honest I wanted the pregnancy to end I felt so bad and worry that I will resent this baby as its caused me so much upset already

I started feeling better at 9-10 weeks and now I am 12 weeks I feel so much better.
Still nauseus but able to work and cope with life although knackered by 7pm!

My advice is to stay in bed, take all the help you can and relax.
Oh and lucozade hels too x
Are you taking any medication? I took cyclazine and this stopped the vomiting

Really hope you feel better soon- I did loads of mumsnetting that 3 weeks!!

Hia, sympathy for you, I had anti sickness pessaries and tablets whole of my pregnancy with twins, after being hospitalised for 2 weeks and it wasn't until I gave birth that I could eat properly, I used to sit on peoples garden walls taking ds1 to school or I would have fainted, awful feeling, so just take it easy it may pass it may not, but accept alllllllllll the help you can get, keep grazing anything you can keep down!

Good luck,

Peachy - have the 'cat' concept in my mind and will execute when I can.
