Something popped in dh calf (sp?)

dh just come in from squash limping and moaning.... he was playing and felt something pop in his calf as if someoen was throwing a ball hard at the back of it. He has asked me to ask mumsnet what to do lol?

Like im not good enough anymore?

So im asking?

Can he put weight on it?

Sounds like a tendon. There's one in the ankle that needs to go in plaster for a week or 6.

He can still move his ankle - its in his calf like the muscle on back of his leg - it is swollen

dh needs to take a trip to A&E. It is possible he's ruptured his achilles tendon, this requires um........ surgery. I might be wrong though.

He is rubbing deep heat on it to see how it goes! He has been off al summer and tomorow is his first day back - he is such a wassack!

DH is an A&E consultant - have just asked him and he reckons your DH needs to go to A&E, preferably tonight if possible to rule out a ruptured achilles tendon. HTH

NOOOOOO! NO deep heat!

A&E, tell him to take some ibuprofen and call a cab. They will look at it. He may need surgery, the tendon snaps, if he leaves it they will have problems repairing it and he'll have movement problems. Get him to go so they can check it.

It's either an achilles tendon rupture - it's a classical history - or a calf muscle tear.

A+E!

If it is a TA rupture, and he opts for surgery, it's sooner the better - don't let him hang around all week.

He wont go - he will go tomorrow after he has had no sleep through it

He really does need to go to A&E. Can you call an ambulance for him? Sleeping it through isn't going to help.

He is hobbling round on it but not howling in pain. He is hobbling into bed. He is a fool i know! I will go have no sleep with him now and

he needs to go to a&e. i ruptured both achilles tendons years ago - felt a pop ad thought someone had kicked me. i danced all night on them and ended up in plaster for 6 mths. i still walk with a limp when tired. consultant went ape at me that i had hobbled around on it for a night and day - made it much worse!

I had this! Was running into Asda when suddenly it felt like I'd been shot in the back of my calf! V weird.

Couldn't get to A&E that night, so just raised it up, took pain killers and kept weight off it. Felt better in morning, could drive to A&E, they said it was... no, sorry, pregnancy brain, can't remember... nothing serious anyway, and just to take it easy.

Went away in under a week. Sorted.

My DH ruptured an AT, nearer his ankle though.

He wouldn't go to A&E nor the GP the next day.

He started walking on it and went to work the next day (1 mile walk at either end of 50 min train journey), what a brave hero .

He eventually went to GP 1 yr later as was still swollen, painful and kept giving way (and I forced him). He only went to first physio appt and opted not for surgery (could have been too late as so much time elapsed?).

3 years later it still regularly gives way, once when he was carrying our dd and he fell full weight on her on a tarmac surface, she was bruised and shaken.

It went again last week, second time in 3 months, and I had zero sympathy and called him an idiot.

Please make him go.

Is the pain in the ankle or the calf. Is hte calf swollen? Might not be a tendon.

Me back - calf v swollen, we went to bed and he was shivering and said he was cold, he said his toes felt numb - his dad has just come and taken him to a and e - i hope it isnt busy.

it's good he's gone. It shouldn't be too busy, the drunks normally fill it up on Sat/Fri night.

Let me know what they say. I hope he gets better soon.

Thanks - tonight it will just be full of the squash playing brigade ! I will do some work then turn in. He said he isnt cut out for sport!

He's just out of practice. These things normally happen to people that are a tad unfit and don't take regular exercise. It's just strain on the tendon, too much strain to quickly makes it snap.

Yes well I joined him into a gym 2 weeks ago for his birthday as a trial for 2 weeks and i bought us a wii fit he always plays squash anyway - he said tonight someoen else played so in between games they cooled down so i guess he cooled down to much! i feel all responsible now - his tummy has gone down a toot though

he'll be off his feet for a while though.

It's not your fault, you didn't tell him how to play. They will sort him out at the hospital. Have you heard anything?
