My mum had lung cancer, so far we know, that they are unable to operate, but she will be having chemo. My sister has just spoken to the nurse mum saw yesterday (we were given her card should we have any questions) and as of yet they haven't staged the cancer. the oncologists are having a meeting monday and we should hear on tuesday about the begining of treatments.

I'm in exactly the same position with my granddad.

Diagnosed lung cancer, that has spread to both lungs and secondaries int he lymph nodes.

Its not operable but he is starting chemo soon, we find out Monday when he starts.I wish you luck and am sorry to hear you are going through this too

Im sorry to hear about your granddad, disenchanted. we are still waiting for the results of the bone scan and she still needs to have a mri scan done. I feel like a rug has been pulled from under my feet.

I know, my mum had skin cancer last year too, but didn't need treatment, it was just removed by operation.

Its hard to get our heads round, especially as we have been told the chemo will just buy time rather then cure him. So theres no real hope to grasp for us.

My mum is taking it badly, which is to be expected.

Have anyone spoken to you about councliing? We have been offered it if any of us feel we need to talk.

Its a very surreal place to be. Like its happening to someone else. Im sure even more so for you as its your mum. I was a state when my mum was ill last year.

we have spoken to our gp this morning who explained that as they are unable to operate then there is no 'real' chance of her going into remission, and that all they hope is that the chemo will shrink it and make her as well as possible, our gp has said that there is counciling (sp) available should we want it. its hard trying to get our heads around everything, it feels very much like it is happening to someone else or as if you are 'looking in' on someone elses life,

Trying to 'act normal' for the kids is getting harder, we have all decided that until they start mum on chemo we will not say anything to the dc's, thats all they know at the moment is that grandma is not very well. so to them it is very unfair of us to cancel our big family holiday.
