For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

there all done
hoorah for story tapes

no, in my defence he has had day full of stuff
taken to park with Kind Friend
then mini assault course at leisure centre - which was so crap we didn't stay. What would you expect if you paid £4 for your 5 year old to do a mini assault course for an hour? just wondering if IABU here in my expectations.
anyway
then to make up for crapness of that, we went for lunch at leisure centre, which sells naff food pretending to be healthy IYKWIM
and watched the olympics on their tv for about an hour
usually hate the tv being on there as is usually mtv (mt porn more like) [prude]
this time sports hurrah
however BOXING
distracted ds during that bit but he saw and said "this is good"

then at home had family bath (me, ds1, ds2)
marvellous but you need another adult for the end bit, everyone wet and waahing otherwise

I think a story tape quite justified at this stage in the day

dd saw some limpic boxing the other day

she was - "Those men are fighting Mummy!". It was very difficult to explain how it was OK for them to fight on the telly because there are rules because I don't really like boxing myself - however if two grown men want to belt seven shades out of one another that's up to them I suppose. In the end I said that some people do special fighting that has rules but only grown ups are allowed and only in certain places - but that I don't like it and I wouldn't want anyone I loved to do it. She was still a bit

Some blueberries
And a sandwich with pickle. There is veg in pickle, right?

If I paid £4 fpr a 5 yo to do a mini assault course I would expect:-

Crawling under stuff (netting perhaps)
Crawling over stuff
Climbing things
Balancing on beams/benches
Throwing beanbags into hula hoops
Kicking balls into things
Maybe some sort of rope thing

?

yes good me too MamaG
we are in accord today

well it was about 10 things laid out on the ground, eg a basketball, a skipping rope, a tennis racket and ball.
you followed the trail round and at each point you had to do something eg bounce the ball 5 times. So the idea was you walked round doing this for an hour. Or in fact, you didn't, you sat down watching the other 14 children doing this in turn for an hour, and had one go yourself. [so I cannot express it]

there were these velcro tag things that apparently are used for tag rugby and you had to stop and change the colour of the tags on your bib. About 5 different times over the course . Which was so clearly just someone's idea of filling in time, and so ruddy pointless it really annoyed me. PLus I don't like competitive stuff overly much, but there was just no POINT to doing this course - it wasn't fun, it wasn't timed to see who could be the fastest, or if you could improve or anything, it was just - someone's idea of keeping children busy for an hour. Really depressing. Anyway after 10 mins ds came and said "I don't want to do this" and I thought "no I don't blame you". So we left.

I would hope to get an assault course as you would have liked for £4 but in reality I would expect it to be how it was, a bit rubbish. There are loads of rubbish kids activities around here. Some good ones too though.

do you mean because £4 is not much mrsC?
we have booked for loads of things at leisure centre this holidays and it has been about half and half crap and great I would say

for instance: £5.50 for 2 hours (and you can bugger off if you want to) of messy play in a big hall - different tables with clay, spaghetti, jellibaff, cornflour goo, paint, glitter, plaster of paris etc etc and half an hour of dancing games and parachute at the end
now you can't mess with that IMO, stonking value for money

another craft one - 2 hours again, in nasty windowless room, some uninspired cutting, colouring and sticking on card things - v dull

the thing is they have all the soft play and gymnastic equipment and a massive bouncy castle already there at the centre and they were not being used at the time
would have been easy peasy to get a dream assault course going, for them to bomb around on for an hour

No, I don't mean £4 isn't much, I mean I would be half expecting someone to have set up some rubbish jumping and things to fill the time as often children's activities are uninspired.

They do a multisport thing here that sounds brilliant but was actually really boring and they don't want to do it again.

Hello
Was lovely to see Bee but she couldn't stop for long on her way to her holiday so it was a bit like on the thread, she whirled through waving and chatting and was gone. Also it's very hard to finish a conversation with lots of children playing hungry hippos very noisily so we seemed to start ten conversations, shouted over the din, but not really finish any. Still, was lovely.

Been in the park all afternoon trying to exhaust the children. It worked a bit too well.

Franny that leisure centre thing does sound rubbishly bad value and not well thought out.

How funny that Bee whirrs in and out like on the thread.

We were in Bristol yesterday, OB. We got the ferry over from the ss to go for for dinner and there was a very funky crazy young man driving it. I wanted to say, 'do you know Osmosis Banana', but I didn't.

Have to get a sample of wee from ds2 for tomorrow. He is very excited about this and shouts out, "I have to wee in a pot!" at random moments. Not sure what to put it in though as any secure containers we have are a little on the large side.

MrsC!! Weather looking not wet for the weekend! Rumours of Day Star abound!
I am ridiculously excited now...
(BTW, we cam e home on Sunday after our boating and I was so exhauseted I have gone to bed at 9.30 every night since....)
I had to do around 5 loads of washing and I was sure we hadn't taken that much with us...

I have bought many glowsticks from Lakeland which amuses me at the middle/classiness of buying glowstcks from them for a festival!
