...and have namechanged to save face but here goes ...

Is it possible to lose your tampon?

I really really really can't remember whether i have taken my tampon out or not (actually convinced that i haven't taken it out) and now i can't find it

Has this happened to anyone else? Was it still up there or had you taken it out without thinking (this is a distinct possibility)? What did you do?

Realllllllllly don't want to have a trip to docs

Am imagining all sorts or TSS symptons too

Please help/advise

i have a friend (no, really) who lost a tampon

gp fished (no pun intended) it out with ease

It happened to my friend (well the string broke),she had to have it removed by her GP .They see this sort of thing all the time BTW so don't worry.

I know this is a bit TMI but have you had a really good feel I can't actually see it having anywhere to go iyswim?

TheArmadillo · 18/08/2008 20:15

is possible.

MAny have done it (it's not exactly unusual).

Go and get checked out by nurse if you don't want to see dr.

If it is up there and you do nothing then it can make you very very ill. If you leave it.

they will have seen it a million times before.

Can you get your DH/DP to have a look?

frankiesbestfriend · 18/08/2008 20:16

This happened to a friend of mine, she had, in fact, forgotten to remove it.

She had to get her partner to have a look and he managed to get it out. Easier for someone else to see when you're lying on your back, legs akimbo

Have you a partner who could help?

Hi, I've been here before, mainly when ive had a drink and can't remember whether I've taken it out or not!

I don't think it would actually be likely to 'lose' it as I think you'd feel it further up. Hopefully there'll be someone on here with actual medical knowledge to help you though xxx

...........I'm pleased you posted this as I really didnt think you could lose it

Unfortunately no partner to help.

Shit, looks like i'm going to have to go to docs

How long before its really unsafe?
Dc's all in bed and don't want to wake them for a trip out to see doc

Poor you. I'd say unless you have REAL TSS symptoms (ie raging temperature, rasping throat - things which are physical enough to panic you) it can wait til morning.

Good luck - one fanny is much like another to a nurse, so don't give it another thought.

Report
TheArmadillo · 18/08/2008 20:23

it'll wait till tomorrow.

I have seen this been asked on here before - so yep you can lose them. When do you think you lost it? I would get it fished out sooner rather than later TBH being a tampon, but then when I had DS I had one shoved in for about 24 odd hours (didn't realise until they took it out!) so I think it would have to be in possibly a long time to cause TSS.

I'm a Practice Nurse and have been asked to "do" this a few times.

Mostly the person has taken it out,and provided the string hadn't broken, its unlikely to "get lost",as the area between your Vagina and Neck of the womb isn't that big,so you would usually be able to locate it.

Get it checked out with the Practice Nurse, don't be embarrassed, she won't be.

I may be wrong but I think most women have done this at some point, I bet you'll make the appointment and then you'll find it because that's sods law!

I left one in by accident for a whole month when I was young. And even put another in at the same time. I did start getting ill though, and got a huge boil on my bum and started having flu symptoms so I guess I was pretty lucky. And I was a virgin at the time so pretty pristine down there compared with now.

traceybath · 19/08/2008 20:40

Sorry to be crude but you can normally tell by the smell if you've left one up there .

Yes I was starting to pong a bit. Was young and naive and au-pairing in America. Probably would have been to GP if in UK.
