keloid scar itchy - any advice?

I have a small scar on my chest - about 1cm long - which has become raised and uncomfortable. I've had it for about two months. Tonight it's annoying enough to stop me falling asleep.

GP advised steroids and we agreed I would start with some 1% hydrocortisone as I had some in. It's not working.

I've just looked at NHS Direct and they say silicon gel sheets.

Anybody had a scar like this successfully treated?

DH has lots of keloids.

Unfortunately the silicon gel hasn't helped him much, but his scars are old so maybe that makes a difference. I worked for Smith & Nephews when they were testing some of the silicon products and they certainly had good results with the trial panel.

He swears by lashings of E45 cream to lessen the irritation, which always gets worse in warm weather.

Hmm, I wondered if the heat had anything to do with it .

Will try silicon gel tomorrow then, ta .

Bugger - neither of these available in two pharmacies I've tried so far. Must try harder!

I had the silicon sheets on prescription for a raised scar on my knee, it took a while but it is almost unnoticeable now and doesn't itch at all.

Found some today but it was £21. Not sure if GP will prescribe as a tiny scar, just v annoying to me.
