Horrible bladder infection - when can I expect antibiotics to kick in

I used to get them chronically but have been clear for a year since I had DD. Think that's way I was a bit slow to pick this up. Now for last 24 hours have had temp betweem 38.7 and 39.9 higher tonight even though I started cefalexin this morning. When can I expect them to kick in? I feel really crook. TIA

normally takes two days (sorry) can someone get you cranberry powder from local healthfood shop? Take with plenty of water last thing at night. Are you taking nurofen and paracetamol - nothing worse than a temp in such hot weather.

Thanks Kewcumber. Will sit it out and send a friend for cranberry powder in the morning.
Been taking paracetamol to not great effect but about to try some nurofen.

Bicarb can dilute the acidity of urine to make weeing less painful.

Just add some to the endless amounts of water you have to drink.

If they are triggered by having sex, get GP to prescribe ab's to take after sex.

I take 1 Cephalexin evey time and have not suffered any for about 4 years. Before that it was nearly every time I had sex and was awful.

take max dose of nurofen and paracetamol alternating until temo comes down. Pweder are better than juice as juice has so much sugar it tends to feed the infection, also worth taking last thing at night because it then sits in your bladder overnight and has more effect. (Tips from Urologist at Kingston hospital so medically backed!)

make sure you are drinking plenty of plain water as well- at least 2 litres a day or a bit more for the next day.

Thanks all. Just woke up feeling very shivery so had to get up but temp is actually right down so things are kicking in.

fizzbuzz agree about sex - i think that's why i've been clear this year - dd is a great contraceptive!!

pweder, Kew?

I think it'll take a day or two for the ABs to start. Take max doses paracetamol and nurofen for a day or so, till they kick in.

Feel considerably better today.

When it goes to a high temp like that, does that mean it's on its way to kidneys? Have really been feeling very ill.

pweder is so much better than powder.

no high temp just means to have an infection, I don't think it means in one place or another.

Yes, I think that is why I have suffered less

Deffo works as a one dose after sex. make sure you ask your GP for it
