My DH had mumps last year - fortunatly DS and I were fine. But it was a right pain as he was supposed to be as isolated as possible.

the kids have had the first mmr or single mumps vaccine - they will be fine, no?

Are you done having kids with this man? If not, I would be worried more about his 25% chance of infertility following mumps than whether your DCs will catch it.

is a 32yo person (me) likely to have been vaccinated??

what if he gets it in his balls and theres no more little people for me to conceive in future??

where did oyu get the 25% figure from Cote? As far as i know mumps rarely affects both testicles, only one, so the actually likelihood of sterility is low.

Kids should be fine - you prob haven't been vaccinated. Do you know whether you had it as a child ?

I got it from Wikipedia, the infallible bastion of knowledge. No, I'm not an expert on male infertility after mumps.

It's probably worth a phone call to the hospital, though, to see if they can offer any preventive measures or freeze sperm, if they would even consider freezing the sperm of a man infected with mumps.

i dont think i did. think my brother had it when small... fairly sure i didnt have it, but maybe i was vaccinated if db had it? [goes to phone mother to ask]

i am unlikely to get it i reckon as my mum had it when i was a baby and my little bro had it when i was a kid and i was fine both times (prob asymptomatic)

NOT THAT ANYONE CARES

Sounds like you'll be fine. Your DH has a 30% risk of getting it in his testicles, but only a very small chance of becoming infertile from it.

thats what dp just said (i visited him in his exile, lucky him). hes v worried about the thing in the testicles coz wiki says it Hurts Bad. he is not remotely concerned about his fertility and a teeny bit miffed that it seems to concern me more than his pain

Erm, following on from the kids being ok with just one jab... also wanting to know the answer to that!!! I know they didn't spend vast quantities of time with him, but still a tad concerned

panic over re contagiousness. he has just been to the actual doctor rather than the wiki doctor ... and he has a stone in his face saliva gland thingamy instead. he has come home with lots of large tablets and it should go by itself apoparently. if not, they can get to it to pull it out (???!)
he is releived that his gonads are in the clear
