have 2 lumps in my breast which I've been told are mastitus.
I was given a weeks course of anibiotics and the dr told me to stop breatfeeding and to express.
I thought maybe it was because of the antibiotics and asked if I had to express and dump the milk.
I was told no, we just tell you to stop feeding because of the pain.
Needless to say I have continued feeding today.
My question is - I've heard that massaging whilst feeding helps but I'm not too sure how to do it.
Do I massage in circles with finger tips or use stroking motions with palm of hand?

Will get some links for you but combing whilst showering with wide tooth comb is very effective

NO, NO, NO, you are not supposed to stop feeding at all. The best thing you can do is to keep the milk flowing freely through the breast, even though you may have to grit your teeth as they latch on. Not feeding makes it WORSE!

Have lots of baths and massage with downward strokes from the armpipt to the breast. Keep feeding and rest as much as possible. Hope you feel better soon.

sometimes if you lie down to feed the baby or feed on all fours over the baby I know thats a little weird but it does help to get the blockage moving have to go babs waking be back soon

Lots of sympathy. I remember how awful it felt.

thanks everyone.

DS is 20 mths so hard to imagine me on all fours feeding him - he'd think it was a game!

He has been really good, bless him.
He watched the doctor examine me and got ever so upset. He knows mummy has a sore boo-ba and is being very gentle.

Will give the bath a try later I think - combing sounds like it would be agony.
