I have my induction at the gym today at 1pm - I am very excited as I sooooo desperately need to loose weight and tone up - the instructer will weigh me and tell me my bodyfat - not to bothered about what he tells me my weight is, I think I am 11st 11lbs and I am only 5ft 3inch but I am really worried about my bodyfat .......

but on the positive side now I am doing something about it

Thanks Hulababy got a real shock I am 12st 1lb and my bodyfat is 38 -I really need to do this. My dh bought me a Steam Cooker and i made chicken, rice and mushrooms last night and pork, potatoes and peppers tonight - tboth dinners very very tasty. I went to boxercise last night (thought I was going to die) and then went to gym this afternoon. I am not going tomorrow but I will do some crunches and then go back on Friday!!

But here is a question for you - I know you said on th ttc thread that I could keep going to gym - does that mean if I became preg I could continue to loose weight and slim down but I would just have my bump?

I joined too a couple of weeks ago and am enjoying it too so far - love the fact that I can have an hour or two away from it all - the nice shower and a coffee in the lounge, and a sauna if there's time, after the hard work are worth all the effort!

When going to the gym when opg - you can still work out. I guess it is more to tone and keep healthy though. To lose weight through the gym alone would mean a lot of hard cardio stuff - and TBH I am not sure if your body will allow yourself to push itself that hard when pg. It's really important to listen to your body and to stop exercising when your body hints at it!

So really just weights and maybe a walk on the treadmill as well as swimming

I joined the gym before Christmas. Have only got there 3 times so far. Our car was off the road for 3 weeks so I didn't have transport. It's trying to find the time to go as well. I went one morning a couple of weeks ago and really worked hard there. Felt so good when I came out.

Weights are fine so long as you don't try too heavy a weight. You don't want to strain/pull anything - and during pg I think your ligaments etc. change don't they? More likely to get injuries if not careful.

I would say the best exercise during pg is not so strenuous cardio stuff.

hi mummygow. i am a gym instructor and aerobic teacher. if pregnant you can continue doing what you are already doing, but nothing new unless it is gentle, like swimming. dont go mad when pg to try to lose weight. its not the right time. but you can carry on at the gym, take it easy and as another mn said listen to your body. DONT do abdominals work except pelvic tilts.

yes, ligaments arre getting loser too so careful with those stretches and not heavy weights. Walking on treadmill, cycling, cross trainer, stepper, rower etc . ok.
