cradlecap

Does anyone know the best solution for cradlecap? My twelve week old son keeps getting it and his head becomes very weepy and covered in yellow crusts. It also spreads to his eyebrows and face when he has it. I have been using olive oil all over his scalp, which does help but it keeps on returning. He has very sensitve skin and is allergic to Lanolin so I have been unable to find any creams as they all seem to have Lanolin in them.

Epaderm will sort it. You can ask for it in Boots and use it to wash his head in the bath. It sorted my daughter's cradle cap out within a week and does not contain Lanolin.

try aveeno cream. it cleared up dd's cradle cap in 4 days when 4m of combing with olive oil had merely stabilised it.

If its weepy ask the doc to prescribe something for you so that it does not get infected. DS had a water type solution from the docs that cleared up any bad patches in a couple of days. I can find the name out if you want.

The over counter remedies are good but if its weeping it can get infected so easily.

olive oil from the chemist is by far the best. Try warming the oil slightly first and then massage into his scalp

Thanks everyone - went for the aveeno cream and it is definitely doing the trick - far better than the olive oil, which I have managed to get down two of my best tops and numerous outfits of DS! Does anyone now how to get olive oils stains out now? Vanish is not touching it!!

only a few days ago i put olive oil on DS's head, let it sit for a few mins. Then washed it off with Dentinox Shampoo for cradle cap (£2.50 from mothercare), whilst his head was covered in shampoo i used DH's fine comb and very gently the scabs came off.

BUT now just reading your message again, perhaps you want to check with your GP in case it affects his skin since he's only 12wks old. (My DS has terrible skin and it has made it so much better)!
