Any ideas / products for MrLulu to stop him getting an ear infection on holiday?

He got the most horrific ear infection last year. massive ABs, painkillers, agony.. doc was in two minds about whether to send him to hospital, said it was the worst infection she had ever seen. DH does not want to miss out on swimming with the DCs, so what can he do to keep water out of his ears?

Our doctor suggested earplugs smeared with vaseline.

but do they work? to keep the water out do you not need special ones? i know it sounds a bit dim, but the only ear plugs i know about are the ones like bits of foam to keep noise out

yes, she said the regular foam ones. DS1 had ear infection last week so we tried it & it appeared to work.

ok that is really useful

maybe a hot pink neoprene head band to go over his ears would help too !

Was it definitely the water? DD got a terrible ear infection last summer and the doctor said people blame water but more often it is the result of driving fast with the windows down. The rushing wind sends small bits of debris into the ear which then lodge there and cause an infection. Worth a thought. Sadly we are keeping the car windows closed this summer (thank god the car has a/c).

thanks TMMJ! that looks just what he needs

definitely water, artichokes, we had an air conditioned car so had windows closed

will look at that, mrsb, did not know ear candles were dangerous

thank you all x

i think they treat outer ear infections; dh uses them if he gets a tingle and then doesnt get an infection like he used to. probably not meant to use them as prevention but they work!

He could alternate, like women who wouldn't be seen earing the same swimsuit twice, on holiday. Maybe you could get him matching speedos trunks.

I hope he doesn't get an ear infection, I'm just getting over one, it's sore.
