Please help! Constipated 1year old!

My little boy was very constipated at the weekend - really in pain and struggling to poo. He still seems to have problems now and it's waking him up etc.

He has NEVER had any poo problems before and I'm starting to worry. Only change to his diet recently is from Fruit & Fibre to Cheerios & the introduction of a cup of cow's milk. Could cow's milk cause a problem does anyone know? He is on goat's milk formula so I'm wondering if this is an issue; though hes had yogurt and cheese before.

I'm giving lots of fluids, he's eating prunes....any other suggestions for the cause or the cure??!!

Ds likes figs, so you might try that - although prunes should have the same effect. Plenty of fruit should also help - ds loved fruit pots at this age. Hope it improves soon

My DD1 has constipation issues and I find that if she has fruit for breakfast it really helps. Also, plenty of fluids, preferably water.

The change in milk may have contributed as the protein in goats milk and cows milk is easier to digest. Two of my children have dairy problems so I give them goats milk. It's widely available.

Thanks. He does eat lots of fruit and always at breakfast time. I'm thinking it might be the milk-Detta, did you mean the protein in goat's milk is easier to digest?

Yes it's a different kind of protein. DS and DD2 are not allergic to dairy but every time I give it to them they have some sort of reaction (red cheeks immediately, night-time dry cough sometimes leading to a chesty one, dry skin patches, diarrhoea). I was told to give them goats milk as an alternative as the protein is different and easier to digest. Also, my own view is that goats are not as intensively farmed.

Has anyone else any experience of their child becoming constipated due to milk (following goats milk formula or otherwise?)
My son is suffering SO much with his poos at the moment and this is the only reason I can think of?

Bumping for you Sweetboy.

I feel for you. I had a similar problem with DS when he was about 18 mnths (now 6yrs). He wouldn't eat any fruit or veg for me. I think what I did was made homemade soup and made him drink lots of fruit juice and eat baby jars of fruit.

It probably is his body adjusting to the change in diet. Could you put him back on whatever he was taking and slowly reduce it?
