Any advice for chronic sinusitis?

After a year of post nasal drip and what appears now to be a sinus infection, the doctor thinks I might have chronic sinusitis. I'm on antibiotics at the moment.

I've read online that sinus rinsing is effective, and I've watched YouTube videos, but when I try it just goes down my throat and not out through the other nostril! What am I missing? I'm holding my head at the right angle etc.

Any other tips?

I have issues with rhinitis that can cause sinus problems and I didn't get on with the rinsing pot so instead I use Sterimar nasal spray, the daily one, as often as I need to. I just spray it up each nostril for a couple of seconds and then blow my nose. It's just saline solution so perfectly safe to use frequently..

You need to lean slightly forward and tilt your head slightly to the side. Although if it's really blocked sometimes it won't get through. Keep persevering, it's worth it. Just make sure that whatever you're using is scrupulously clean and sanitised.

@Correlation yes I have the sterimar, but I feel like it's just rinsing out my nostril and going no further, unless I do a massive sniff and it goes down my throat 🤮

None of the above worked for me and I ended up having surgery, which improved things massively.

It's hell. Do you have nasal polyps? I've had it for years. I have had every medication under ere then sun and multiple surgeries but they keep coming back.

Sterimar gives me the most relief. As does a hot shower. If you have an infection - plenty of painkillers, and an ice pack to the face.

I've just had a look and there's different versions so would appreciate recommendations.

I use the cheapest supermarket antihistamines I can get (as recommended by my gp). Works a treat!

Sounds like your sinus is completely blocked. Keep rinsing, head forward but tilted to the side.

It's also a good idea to go for decongestants as well, to give the rinse as much chance as possible to get in behind whatever hardened yuk is blocking it.

Rinse daily and after about 4 days, you'll be more likely to feel a difference.

I find Neilmed better then sterimar.

And it sounds odd, but sort of whispering a Kaaaaaah sound helps it go to the right place.
And yes- head forward, but also tipped to the side. So you're putting the spray into the uppermost nostril.

But no to ice- a nice hot water bottle for the pain!

My husband had sinus problems for about 15 years, using prescribed nasal sprays, rinses, Steroids etc to try and help which did a little but not loads. He had a camera up his nose but nothing the doctor could see causing the issue. Last January he gave up wheat and within a couple of weeks it had immeasurably improved and he no longer needs the prescriptions. So worth a try if you’ve not already!
