Gallstones and pregnancy

Does anyone have any experience of having gallstones whilst pregnant.

My friend is in this situation and she is naturally terrified. She is 14 weeks pregnant and has just had her first attack and was hospitalised. She can only take buscopan and paracetemol for pain relief due to the pregnancy. I advised her to cut fat out of her diet but not before speaking to her midwife.

Any thoughts? She is in a bad way, poor love.

I was so ill with something similar that I had to have my gall blader removed at 20 weeks pregnant with DS1.

They were concerned as my bloods were not good.

I only took paracetomol for the pain and I was back at work 3 days later.

If she can she needs to cut out dairy especially cheese and def fat fried food and im pretty sure red meat too. Had my gall bladder out 8 years ago but i shovel what i like now!

Dont know about pain relief tho as i was on pethedine for mine. Sympathy to your friend an "attack" of gallstones is worst than childbirth. Poor woman.

madhouse, that is interesting that you had yours out whilst pregnant, i wondered if that was a possiblity. I guess they will wait and see if she has any further attacks before they make a decision on that, i have tried to cheer her up by telling her she might not get another attack (it is possible taht she may not, but how likely that would be im not sure). I had gall stones, i realise now that i had an attack when i was about 30 weeks but we thought the baby was coming early, i didnt have anything again until the baby was 2 months old. I can totally empathise with the pain, i was BF so was limited on pain relief too, but in the end i had to give up because the pain was too much and i was running out of milk due to the lack of food. I was more or less starving myself, lost four stone in six weeks, not good. (of course the weights back on now)
