Anyone had amniotic fluid drained in 3rd trimester to relieve polyhydramnios?

Have moderate/severe polyhydramnios and rather uncomfy. Consultant has mentioned possibility of draining some fluid to relieve discomfort and to make delivery lower risk. But surely this increases the risk of pre-term labour?? Am confused - anyone with experience??

I had acute polyhydramnios from 32 weeks. It was absolute agony and I could only take very brief naps, as I couldn't lie down in bed or even on the floor.

I wasn't offered any draining (13 yrs ago), but if it was on offer I'd have taken it. I was almost suicidal with the pain and exhaustion, and I'm not a soft person by any means.

Was booked in for a cs at 37 weeks, as they thought the polyhydramnios was due to brain damage in ds (it wasn't, it was because his oesophagus and trachea were fused), but in the event went into labour at 36 weeks and had emergency cs.

I'd listen to the consultant. If he or she thinks the risks are low, go for the draining option to avoid an awful lot of pain.
