Hi I have had a mild version of gastritis previously but this time the pain is extreme . Like a dull ache in the middle of the stomach . I have had an infection and have been taking ibuprofen every 4 hours for a few days at the suggestion of my GP this has helped but I wonder if it could have caused the stomach pain . Any one got any tips to ease the pain please

Have you had a h.pylori test?
Make sure too you don't actually have low stomach acid, can cause gastric pain just as much as too much acid can.

Meant to say- peppermint oil capsules. Life-saver.

I'm also having gastritis pains, I always find it gets worse before my period. Already on 40 mg esomperzole. Sometimes I take cocodamol if the pain gets too bad.

lul37 ah that’s interesting I am due on . Do you find co codamol helps and doesn’t make it worse ? The pain is intense sometimes

Yes I noticed a pattern that I do tend to get worse flare ups around my period. Although all the gastro docs I saw dismissed any connection. For me the codamol is the only thing that takes away the pain...but it does make me constipated so I try to to take Gaviscon instead if I can get away with it.

Ginger tea (fresh ginger steeped in boiling water). I found Lansoprazole much better than Omeprazole

Yes to fresh ginger, I used this just the other day for gastritis nausea. Also peppermint tea.

But really you need to get a good prescription from your gp and if you haven't already been checked for underlying causes including h pylori then you need to be.

Ibuprofen can irritate the stomach lining so I wouldn't be taking that right now.

Bland foods in the meantime, avoid caffeine and anything acidic.

Thanks all I do have some fresh ginger so will try that . I was tested for h pylori a year ago so will ask again . What can they prescribed apart from Ppi ?

Like @Metherdick I get Lansoprazole from gp because Omeprazole wasn't quite doing the trick...But if h pylori then they can treat with antibiotics.

You might find dietary changes help in the longterm, one of the things that seems to worsen mine is onion which is a shame bc I used to cook with it allllll the time

Good luck and if you want to explore dietary solutions more, ask to be referred to a dietitian :)

Thank you I will do :-) I went back to my GP. Who is lovely she said to stick with omprezole for now , gaviscon 4 times a day and a bland diet . Ginger tea helps to . I felt a lot better till she prodded me about sore now . Slow process but getting there . She’s also taking some bloods and testing for h pylori again

Can I ask what form the H Pylori test took? For example, stool sample or bloods.

The only way HP can be accurately diagnosed is with endoscopy, but maybe that's the test you had.

Report
Ahbump · 06/03/2021 17:48

Hey I have had it tested by endoscopy a year ago was negative now stool testing , gp said that would pick up any current h pylori bacteria . If things don’t settle endoscopy next I hand one Dec 2019 no sedation so not keen to keep having them !
