Is this an umbilical hernia??

Hi all. Noticed a strange lump/protrusion in in my belly button today that I'm sure wasn't there before! It's soft and doesn't hurt to push on, although I do get occasional pain in the area. It shrinks when I lay down. I've attached a couple of pictures. I know none of you are doctors so can say for sure!

It's not causing me significant pain/discomfort, and with the whole COVID situation I'm quite reluctant to see a doctor unless it was a dire emergency. Does it look like an umbilical hernia? If so, should I get it looked at or just leave it for now until things have calmed down, COVID wise?

Thank you Smile

Yes, it does look like it and I understand your concern, especially at the moment, but always get an abdominal lump checked out with your GP.

Mine also moved from laying to sitting position, but was the size of a grapefruit so you couldn't miss it!

Hernia pain is quite specific and if it does build or not settle please seek medical advice. My second hernia I had numerous pain attacks, and the last one kept me up all night and made me vomit (I did go to hospital). They can rupture and this is an emergency.

I know it's a difficult time with Covid, but your GP is the best person to advise you.Smile

@PaolaNeri Thank you! Luckily my doctor does e-consult, so I've sent them pictures to see what they say.

It certainly looks like my my umbilical hernia.
I’m lucky, I don’t have any problems with mine apart from a dull ache ache or the odd shooting pain when I’m lifting too much at work.
However if it’s painful or something feels different it’s worth a chat with the gp.

Thanks all. Doctor got back to me today and yeah, he's pretty sure it's a hernia but because it's not causing severe pain discomfort and is quite small, they wouldn't do anything about it. Just a matter of keeping an eye on it.
