In London? I live in Nw London but am happy to travel. Just want someone who's really competent and intelligent. And not someone who is out to make money.
Ive had ongoing lower back pain for a year, everything I have done so far has not helped. I think my bladder problems are related. Need a wise practioner who will understand.

Thank you in advance

I can't recommend one in London I'm afraid, but have you had any sort of imaging to see what's causing your pain? I only ask because I've had back pain on and off for years and different people can help with different causes.
I saw an Osteopath when I should have seen a Chiro and things got much much worse. My GP and Physio could be accused of incompetence.
I've now just had surgery after an escalation of my problems, which was only picked up when I arranged for an MRI privately.

Thanks grey12, will look up.

WellyBootsAreYouFrom I've been down the miserable road of GP negligence and useless physios. I too believe I need an MRi to really establish what is going on..

Can't help with a local recommendation but do you have any idea re: cause for your back pain? In many cases nothing is structurally wrong, it could be stress related and/or you could have developed heightened nerve sensitivity.

I'm on a pain management course at the moment and bladder problems are definitely associated with chronic pain.

You obviously need to rule out any significant issues but if there is nothing serious going on, you may have to try a number of techniques to help with your pain.

Have personally found physio and yoga most useful but everyone is different.

I hope you manage to find something that works for you, I'm 2 1/2 years down the line now and only just finding my feet with it.

Thank you ritzbiscuits I think there may be a link to menopause etc. But would like it assessed to be sure.

British School of Osteopathy are really good. 3rd/4th year students under supervision from tutors so cheaper than seeing a qualified person but you get really expert input. No idea what their Covid operating policy is.

Has it been reviewed by a Dr?

If you want an MRI on the NHS, the GP needs to refer you (to Rheumatology in my area). Wait will be several months most likely.

I also sought a price to get a single consultation with a consultant and MRI scan last year, it was about £700 from memory.

In the end I decided not to go down the private route and turned down a NHS MRI when offered one. After eventually having an assessment with a consultant rheumatologist, she didn't think it would tell us anything and would likely show some damage in line with age expectations.

I found a decent private physio gave me an assessment and helped improve my pain in a few sessions.

Food for thought

The problem with back pain is there are so many causes
Mine was fixed by physio , losing weight and core exercises
Ironically I’ve gained the weight back but the pain is still away

I personally shop around a bit as the cause needs determining
Good luck 🤞

My MRI was about £600, privately arranged at the Nuffield. Honestly OP, if you can afford to, do it. The liklihood is that it will be able to at least point you on the right direction.

My Chiro, Physio and Osteo all assured me (with the best of intentions I'm sure) that they could fix me. I then saw a Orthopaedic Surgeon who recommended a microdiscectomy, I went on for a second opinion and have now had a dual fusion and microdiscectomy. I'm about a week post surgery and already feel like I'm in less pain than I was before my op.
I did have other things along with my back pain (nerve pain, numbness in one leg), but even with all that my GP said I was fine and should take up cycling.

If you are in pain, push for help. Drugs don't heal long term pain and it's simply not good enough if you are being fobbed off.

I hope you get answers soon.
