Pain during sex and spotting after

For the last few months sex has been painful at the beginning. It improves after a couple of minutes but is a very intense searing pain which I have to 'get used to' and then it gradually goes, although not completely. I've also had a bit of spotting afterwards (small pink spot on toilet paper), but nothing major.

Happens with/without lube, independent of position. Not pregnant, not on any hormonal contraception (use condoms). Sex isn't rough and no sharp fingernails causing it.

Anyone had similar or have any idea what it could be?

Could be an ovarian cyst.

Could be endometriosis. It’s worth asking for a transvaginal ultrasound. Hopefully it’s nothing that will cause you too much trouble but worth investigating and treating.

Thanks, I do sometimes get what seems like ovarian pain on one side, but it's not excruciating.

I had wondered about endometriosis but I don't get heavy or painful periods (very occasionally some cramps, usually none) so didn't think it was likely?

It could still be endo with light periods.

Thanks, I'm also due a smear so will see if that's painful (usually isn't) and hopefully result is ok...

Would ideally not want to go back on the pill if it is endo...

My mother had severe endometriosis and fibroids and eventually needed a hysterectomy. She had horrendous periods, and mine aren't bad at all. So hopefully not going down the same path as she did...

No, hopefully not. I hope it’s something that can be managed far more easily than that. But it is definitely worth looking into. Be prepared to push GP if they don’t take you seriously

You can have quite severe endo with minimal symptoms. It runs very strongly in families.

Endo pain from sex is usually caused by deposits on your uterosacral ligaments.
