Kidney infection - ugh

Hi all

Thursday woke up with awful cystitis, burning wee every 5 mins, was even passing blood (actually thought I'd started my period but no!)
Fri woke with fever and shivers, rang GP who diagnosed kidney infection and started me on antibiotics (Cefalexin 500)
Felt bit better Sat but yesterday felt absolutely awful. The UTI symptoms have gone as has the fever but I am feeling absolutely exhausted, lower back ache on one side and very tearful. Appetite not great but am eating and making sure to drink lots.
Is this par for the course? I sent in a urine sample Fri to check I'm on the right antibiotics and I'm sure I am otherwise would probably feel a lot worse and still have a fever.
I have 3 young DC 6 and under so bed rest not possible but been on the sofa while they play lego and watching films. Of course because I had a temperature on Friday we're all self isolating and still awaiting results!
Any tips from fellow sufferers welcome! I'm probably going to take the week off work and hopefully that will get me back on my feet! Smile

How are you feeling now? We're you given a 7 day course of antibiotics? Anything less is pointless in my experience.
If you're still struggling with pain in your back have you tried using heat? I find that helps.

Sorry you have a kidney infection.

I got uti symptoms and two courses of 3 day antibiotics but but then had spread to kidneys. Given 10 days course and improved - I had also being losing lots of blood, very dizzy, nausea, pain in both sides and under ribs, fever etc - and thought gone. I was left very dizzy for 5 days though improved with crisps presumably the salt. But then uti symptoms started again then mild fever then back pain so now on 7 days more cefalexin though very itchy and very dizzy / drowsy now. I can eat enough calories but have to be very careful what I eat and drink - can only tolerate water with drinks and food have to avoid meat and anything greasy, toast with butter sets me off too.

Must be so hard with young kids - mine are at least teenagers and DH is wfh. I also sent urine sample in on Friday though did one at home and all 3 issues were positive so not too hopeful.

Hi everyone thank you so much
Finished 7 day course of antibiotics yesterday and all UTI symptoms have gone and back ache eased. Still feeling tired and teary!
@KoalaRabbit I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. I hope you manage to get some rest and that the antibiotics help. They do absolutely exhaust your body too, all the antibiotics, so when you've finished the course make sure you get on some probiotics.
Btw my urine sample got sent back to GP as lab not testing some samples due to covid!

@TheSeedsOfADream hope you're ok, make sure you phone GP and get antibiotics straight away as managing it yourself doesn't always work. Until then drink plenty of fluids and rest if you can xx

Glad you're feeling better Glitter, hope you get better soon too Koala
It was actually your post on another thread that made me realise the back twinge, the weeing twinge and pulling sensation etc were actually connected! Blush
Brew cranberry tea for all!

Thanks Seed Hope you get better soon too. I'm a lot better than I was, just annoying keeps coming back. I've been told to just drink water but cranberry tea sounds nice. I keep having frosties just to have hot milk. Have you got antibiotics yet? I think if you can get hold of them quickly it should go with 7/10 days antibiotics.

I haven't, no. I was giving it till Monday to see. The OOH is at our hospital which is a 5min walk from here so if it gets worse today I've told dp we're off there later!

I'ld be tempted to go today to OOH, mine worsened really rapidly at the start and think the delay maybe why its reappeared though could be kidney stone or similar.
