Hi everyone I’m a mum of 6 children I’ve been so busy having children being a mum and working I didn’t realise I haven’t had a smear since 2015 😢🙈 went to the docs last week due to abnormal bleeding for 3 weeks other than that I’ve felt fine and normal for me. She done a smear/examination and took some swabs she said she can see something on my cervix and I’ve now got an appointment on the 7th July for a colposcopy I’m so mad at myself for not asking more questions but I just felt froze and now I’m worried sick about everything and what’s going to happen all I can think of is the big c word does anyone have any similar stories thanks

Hi Kerylivers. Wanted to post because I had this a few years ago and had an almighty freak out - convinced myself I was going to die etc. However, on this one medical issue Google is your friend. Only 1% of women with abnormal smears have the big C. That means a 99% chance you'll be fine! So many women have had abnormal smears, colposcopies and then the procedure to remove the cells. You'll probably find loads of your female friends have had it. Please try not to worry - the odds are massively in your favour, the consultant will probably be able to say pretty confidently what it is (they will probably do a biopsy as well - not because it's cancer but because they then figure out what grade of abnormality it is - ie if it will go away by itself or if it should be removed) so you'll know pretty definitively shortly.

I had one years ago and it found I needed a minor op to cut away the suspicious area. In and out one day no biggie. Follow up treatment was a smear every year for 10 years and never any other issues. Friend has similar and she got laser treatment.
