Hello, I'm just back from doctor. I was hoping to have my coil removed so we could ttc but she can't find the strings. She said come back in a few weeks and if she cant find them I will be referred to hospital.
Anyone else having similar problems??

Mine are also lost! I realised I couldn't feel them probably about 18 months ago and went to the GP to make sure it was OK. She sent me for an internal scan & they confirmed the coil was in the right place but the strings were just too far up to find. I don't want it removed yet so haven't done anything about it but when I do they have said I'll need to go to a family planning clinic instead of the GP to have it taken out.

Thanks for replying, I haven't felt them for a few months and had previously told her this vut as I wasn't needing it removed at that time she said it wasn't an issue.
I'm worried it will be a long wait!

Yes - we're starting to think about TTCing #2 early next year and I was thinking I will have to plan in advance to get it removed in time to let everything settle down first! If you've told her you haven't felt them for a while seems a bit pointless to wait a few more weeks...

@Katierose34 how are you getting on? Have you been back to your GP?

I am currently waiting for a minor op because they can't reach the strings. I've had to have a scan to make sure it was actually still there (you would think I'd notice if it had come out). Now just waiting for the date to go in to have it removed. I've been waiting since December. Covid pushed everything back. The original wait time was 8 months.
I will never have another contraceptive that I can't remove/stop myself. As you can probably tell I'm incredibly frustrated.

My advice is to keep pushing to get it removed etc. I went private for the scan as that wait time was months. I'd have gone private to get it removed but the doctor said it was around 4 grand for a 5 minute procedure.

I had to get mine removed under general anaesthetic as the nurse couldn't remove it and neither could the gynae clinic at the hospital. I did have to wait quite a while and that wasn't during the pandemic!

Hey! My mirena coil did this. They checked it on the ultrasound and then I had it removed under general anaesthetic. They also did a womb biopsy as I had some pain, but that was clear and of no concern. The coil was removed successfully and all was good :)

My GP fiddled about for a while but couldn't find it. I did have a scan but can't remember now if it was before or after this; before, I guess? It was a long time ago.
I was referred to hospital for a general to remove it.

Hi, I had gp this morning again. She couldn't find it, she said she thought she could slightly feel it off to the side but tried again and nothing🙄 she said she would call me later this week with a date for the coil clinic at the hosp. It is soooo frustrating!

How are you all getting on? Apparantly the 'coil clinic ' at the hospital is not running yet because of covid but they hope to be in a few weeks and I will apparently be a priority case.

Hi all, I can't believe how many people must be dealing with this. Mine also went missing and after a doctor check this week I've been told it's 8-12 weeks before I get a scan and goodness knows how long after before I can get the bastard thing removed. I'm not ttc, just suffering terrible cramps and hormone swings and just want rid now. I've told my DH it's snip or sheath from now on cos I'm done with being responsible for contraception. I'm going to call the private clinic tmw to see if I can get a scan sooner. I can't believe it'll be £4K to get it removed privately! That's incredible. Hopefully after a scan I'll be reassured somewhat and will be willing to wait for NHS removal.

Hello ladies, any updates?
I eventually have an appointment for a month's time for the doctor at the clinic to try to remove my coil, failing that I will be put on a waiting list for a scan to see where the coil is located. Smile

Hi @Katierose34, I ended up paying to go private to sort it out. Got an appt in 3days, had scan, found it was dislodged and removed it all in one go. £320 but well worth it to avoid the waiting around.

Mine went missing and I had to have a scan to make sure it was still in place. As it was still in place they were happy to leave it until it was time to remove it. When the time came, they used a barbed instrument to snag the strings. It took some doing but at least she managed to get them and I didn't need to have it removed under anaesthetic.
