Do you think my 3 year old's weight sounds right?

Not sure how tall he is but he is taller than quite a few 3 year lds, people often mistake him for four.
He weighs 2 stone 9lbs.
His tummy sticks out but I think that's normal?
Often 3-4 year old trousers feel a bit tight round his weight and due to dh been overweight (or more accurately in the obese category) I am a bit more concerned than i otherwise would be iyswim

That weight sounds fine for a tall three-year-old. The tummy sticking out is totally normal, it will disappear in a year or two. When DD2 was that age and up until she was 5 at least she had a larger waist than DD1 who is nearly three years older and we had difficulty with buying jeans for her, her waist is now quite slim and she fits into all her older sister's cast-offs.

LJ, ds is 3.5 (as you know ) and he's 2.10, but he jumps up and down between 2.8 and 2.11

He's not overly tall, he looks his age, and he has a tummy. He's in age 2-3 trousers, they do up on his tummy, 3-4 are too big and way too long.

I wouildn't worry.

My 3 year old (soon to be 4) is 19.5 kilos, not sure what that is in old money though.

My DD is 3 (a May 2004) baby and weighs 2 stone 6lbs. She is by no means tall or fat although she still does have a bit of a tummy. Age 3 trousers or skirts are generally too big around the waist and she is still in some 18-24s. So on that information I would think a tall boy only weighing 3lbs more would be reasonable.

My dd1 is 3.9 and she weighs 2 stone 8. She looks just right! I think they vary widely at this age don't they?

DD (4.5) is slightly overweight for her height, I was just trying to find her chart so I could tell you what she weighs, but can't! Her tummy sticks out like you describe and I have trouble finding clothes of the right length to fit.

I did a food diary for a week to see if there was anything I could be cutting back on, and I worried that she wasn't getting enough exercise. However, when I wrote it all down, there was nothing that jumped out. I cook everything fresh for her, she doesn't have processed foods, she doesn't snack, and hardly ever has biscuits or sweets so I'm thinking it might be that her portions are too big. And she was doing some sort of "activity" every day - swimming, park, running round at playgroup.

I've got the HV coming to see me in a couple of weeks to have a chat about it and I'll see what she says.

Does he look it fakeblonde? I wouldn't think so, they are generally not putting weight on this fast at that age. DD has had a bit of a growth spurt to get her to 2 st 6 tbh, she was 2 st 2 for months and months.

"that fast as this age"

i have opposite issue - my 2.9yo dt's are still in 18 - 24 month clothes.....should i worry?

Well meely my dd has a 12-18 dress that she still wears (bear in mind that she is 3.4) although it has to go with leggings now because a little on the short side. She still has quite a lot of 18-24s though, especially in skirts where length is less of an issue.

Meely I've just put some 18-24 month stuff on ebay that my nearly 4yo has just grown out of, so I wouldn't worry too much...

I'm with QoQ, what are all these weights in kgs? Sorry but stones mean nothing to me.

My DS1 is 3.4, and he weighed himself at the dr's on Friday and he was about 16.5 kgs. He is in some 4 year old clothes, as the 3 year ones are too small round the waist (he too has a little pot belly!).

I have no idea if he's average for his age - it's his brother we're worried about!

I too am shocked at all this stones and pounds malarky - I thought we were a metric country!

OMG just done that BMI chart thing and it says DS is overwieght!

There isn't one single bit of fat on him, he is very tall and lean

my ds has always been a 'big' boy. Over the 100 centile on those charts etc. At 3 he still had quite a lot of puppy fat and age 4-5 trousers were tight on him. In the last year he has shot up and really slimmed out, the difference is unbelieveable. I wouldnt worry about it, as long as he is eating healthily etc Im sure he is fine.

also - i meant to say, re weight, that im sure some kids are denser than others iykwim. I know children who are a similar size / shape to ds but if you pick them up they feel half the weight.
