Around two or three times a year I will randomly get a boil appear, usually on my inner thigh but sometimes the back of my thigh. It happens so infrequently that I don't think it is worth going to the GP about and they tend to heal within around three days.
However they are really painful. I have one right now and it is in a place where it gets compressed when I sit down and gets irritated when I walk so it is pretty irritating. It showed up on Saturday and is not as painful today thankfully so it is definitely healing.
Like I said this happens maybe 2-3 times a year and I can never pinpoint why it has happened. They do tend to appear in the week before my period which is when I also tend to get acne so I am wondering if it is caused by inflammation to do with my period? I thought maybe it was caused by shaving but I hadn't shaved for a couple of days before this one appeared. I have also been using a pretty rich body lotion so I am wondering if that has caused it?
I have recently lost some weight and was thinking to myself I hadn't had a boil in ages so maybe weight loss had helped and the very next day I had one! The first one in probably a year!
Does anyone have any insight into what causes them and if there is anything I could be doing to prevent them?
