What's the grown-up word for sleepy-dust?

I've suddenly realised I'm 58 and still using baby-talk to refer to the crusty bits in your eyes when you wake up. All I can find by Googling is 'rheum' - but I've never, ever heard anyone refer to it as that!

What do you call it?

I'd say ' Oh there is a bit of sleep in your eye'.

I’ve only ever heard it referred to as ‘sleep’.

Nah, duck muck (or duck meat) is the gunk you get between your toes!

'Sleep' sounds much better - I might have to use that. I'll pass on the pixie poo and duck muck, thanks!

I love the term sleepy dust, adorable.
I think the correct name is gound.
We tend to refer to it as crust which isn’t pretty at all.
