Hi all my little one keeps having dark green poo we were advised to slowly wean early due to poor weight gain and reflux sickness etc so any way the poo became green. So i took the food away it's remained green.
He is mixed feed breast & formula has been since 9 days old due to being hospitalised and severe jaundice and at the beginning we've had the odd green poo but mostly a yellow colour until the baby porridge was started. Any ideas what could be causing the green colour? It's pretty firm texture too more on the constipated side of things.
We were also using carobel to try and keep the formula down but it didn't make much difference to the amount lo was sick?.
I'm contacting gp again Tuesday but in the mean time any ideas anyone many thanks?

If its firm it suggests a little dehydration maybe? Some cool boiled water?

Ordinarily it would suggest bile duct problems but (I'm not an expert) I believe its usually looser with bile duct

Personally I wouldn't wait with a five month old i would call out of hours

My personal experience with weaning early due to reflux is you should wean onto rice no gluten products at all oats do contain some gluten

In somebabies, the iron sulfate in a supplement or iron-fortifiedbabyformula can makedark green stools, or sometimes evengreenish-black. Which could account for the constipation too.

I had wondered about iron but little one has had same formula since it was introduced at the hospital?

When I was weaning DD2 onto formula from BF at 6 months her poo started to turn greenish, more so with solids too. DD1 was the same but she was always formula fed and struggled with constipation but as soon as we introduced solids it went dark green/brown.
I think it's quite normal.

Both my DDs had green poo, I never knew the cause, I don't think it is anything to worry about.
