Over the last week I'm struggling to go over to sleep in bed. Currently have been laid here over an hour and i can't nod off. I've only had one decent night where i haven't lresorted to the sofa and that was when I'd had a fair bit of wine to drink. For some reason if I go down and stick the tv on I can get to sleep but I just can't seem to go to sleep in my bed.

I feel like I'm getting stuck in a bad cycle and all I'd like is a decent nights sleep.

When I cant sleep the only thing that helps is rubbing pure lavender essential oil about 5 drops to each upper arms and on the tops of my feet. The smell is so strong and after about 20 minutes I think it sinks in and I'm out like a light. But defo no phones in bed, just read a book in the lamp light, make it a ritual going to your bed for sleep- fresh clean sheets and have a hot bath about 45 mins before bed- the body drops in temperature when getting out of the bath so helps encourage sleep.

I'll give that a try tomorrow. I've resorted to the sofa now and the tv on to listen to. It's been the only way I can nod off for some reason.

It's horrible. I lie in bed, in the dark, trying to will myself to sleep night after night. I find the worst thing is how bloody boring it is, and what a waste of time. Sometimes I pretend I'm forcing myself to stay awake, and weirdly it makes me sleepy.

A weighted blanket helps me, I got it from amazon for £40. Nothing fancy, I just put it on top of my duvet, it strangely doesn't make me any hotter. Also free meditation app called insight timer really good

Perhaps you need background noise ? Could you pop a radio on playing soothing tunes ?

@MissSmiley I'm 43. I was wondering if it was hormone related ☹️

I'm already dreading going to bed this evening. Last night I laid awake for an hour and a half in bed, came down and slept on the sofa for about 2 hours. Then went back up to bed about 330 am and slept until 830 so I feel a bit fresher today than I have most of the week but god I'd love a full nights sleep in my bed.

It is awful OP. Last night I went up to bed at midnight, read my book until 12.30am when I felt sleepy. Light off, lay down. DH starts snoring so wide awake again. Eventually dropped off around 1.30 I think. Then the regular low flying very noisy plane that comes over every night at 2am woke me up rattling my windws. Awake till 3.30. DH snoring woke me at 5am. Read my book again until 8am, when I dropped off for another half hour.

That's my pattern most mights.

Last night I managed to have a little doze in bed. Woke at 12:30 was too hot came down and immediately went to sleep on the sofa. Woke again at 3 and went back to bed and slept until 8am. My sleeping habits are getting bizarre

I play audiobooks through Alexa.

It needs to be a saga type story that doesn't have anything too exciting happens and a reader's voice who is pleasant to listen to - and preferably is able to seamlessly change voices for different characters.

Pillars of the Earth and the rest of that series is perfect. Not least because PotE is summarised on Wikipedia so it's possible to work out where in the story I am when I miss a chunk I usually say ' a read my book' followed by 'A stop in 10 mins' so that it doesn't go on playing all night. I am usually asleep by then but if not or if I wake in the night I just repeat the process.

It is enough then to concentrate on the story and stops me ruminating. which I think does pretty much what the TV is doing for you. But I'm in bed rather than on the sofa.

I'll try that tonight and see if it helps me. It's beginning to really piss me off now
