Hi my dad who is 83 had a fall in his garden and fractured both sides of his jaws he was discharged from a&e the surgical team with antibiotics and advised to have a liquid diet .
They arenot sure if he’ll need surgery I’m praying not given his age , covid & he has copd so vunerable . We buried my beloved mum 3 weeks ago and he’s in bits .
I’m just wondering what I can give him to eat I’ve bought complan , soups , but am not sure what else he is frail and will lose weight but how can I keep the nutrients up
Has anyone else had a fractured jaw that healed well ? I know it depend on the severity and area of the break but I’m so scared

Call dr’s and ask for a referral to a dietician. They have drinks for building people up.

Has he been seen by speech and language? They have build up shakes and juices, Fortisip and Fortijuice.

He may not have been seen by anyone in this current climate but a call to your dads GP to raise concerns and ask about this and say you are concerned about frailty may help.

Hope your dad is ok op and you can get some support for him. Have just been through very similar with my dad sadly he passed away. He had a few underlying health conditions including dementia and he has always been very slim/slight. He caught covid and was in hospital for 4 weeks. Frailty was a secondary factor on his death certificate.
