It may be an intolerance to wheat, rather than gluten. It is high in fructans. I developed an intolerance a few years ago, (I'm 73), and due to bad acid reflux, went low carb. I can eat a small amount of wheat products, but get pain and discomfort if I overdo it. I can't eat anything high in sugar or carbs now. So it might not be just gluten.

Thanks everyone. Yes I've not had any bread/gluten for the last 2weeks or so. It's easy to say cut something out but gluten is very hard, especially when all the good stuff has it, those saying just stop eating it I'm guessing have never tried?
I was managing the issue fine, with no real pain and found I had a tolerance level of about 2 slices of toast or a couple of biscuits but anything more I couldn't cope with.
But all tolerance had just ceased!

Yes I made sure I ate gluten for a month plus before I had all the tests. It was horrible, I had to make myself suffer 😢

I've heard Coeliac is hard to diagnose and can mask as IBS so I guess I just have to wait a few years and get tested again but the problem with that is that I'm probably not digesting enough gluten now to get a proper result.

It feels like the pain/ache/spasm is linked to my intestines and its not separate in anyway.

May ring the GP tomorrow. Thanks.

Did you make sure you ate plenty of gluten before you were tested? If you cut down or cut out gluten before the test it could come back negative (my DD has celiac).

Definitely a reason to call the gp

If you've not eaten bread and it's still the same then if it were me I'd call the GP in the morning.

Ring GP and ask for referral. You might not get seen for months at the moment but I was the same and although I do have a bowel condition the pain was being caused by gallstones !
I have had them removed twice now and was waiting for gall bladder removal before Covid.

If I was you I wouldn't eat any bread as this seems to bring on your pain.

So about 5/6 years ago I started suffering IBS symptoms, did an elimination diet stupidly before tests (but I was desperate for relief, found it was gluten causing the issues), had lots of blood tests and an endoscopy to check for Coeliac but came back negative and they diagnosed me with IBS possible gluten sensitivity.
I accepted the diagnosis, although female in late 20's at the time, I was convinced it was Coeliac but what can you do?
So I just cut down the gluten to nothing, took buscopan when I slowly reintroduced gluten and had pain, but made sure to never have huge amounts of the stuff.
Anyway, it all flared up at the start of this lockdown, came off the gluten 100% I was only having 2 slices of toast in the morning. It was so bad I had to have a liquid diet for 2 days until all pain went.
I thought I'd recovered and had a bit of toast to only suffer threefold afterwards and it hadn't stopped 😭 it's not massively painful anymore but it's CONSTANT. I wake up in the morning with it, like a stomach ache kind of feeling. It's not relieved by bowel movements.
I'm wondering if it's more than IBS like maybe an ulcer?
It's exactly where my belly button is. Feels at the moment like somethings being tugged?
It's been like this for about 1-2wks. Buscopan doesn't help, neither does peppermint tea.
Ring GP or not?
