I have very severe migraines and they are strongly related to my monthly cycle. I think I'm unusual though in that it's Day 7-14 (days 7-10 in particular) that are the worst days for me. I know lots of women experience hormonal migraine but it's usually the last days of the month that they experience it.
I'm assuming it's the surge in hormones at that time of the month that's causing them. I'm considering trying contraceptives to see if they could help. I was warned off the combined pill years ago by a GP due to the risk of stroke but my own recent research would suggest that this isn't an issue for me as I don't have aura with my migraines. I have tried the progesterone only pill a couple of times but they made me horribly exhausted all the time. Maybe I should try a combined pill? Or is there some other hormonal treatment I could try?
Any suggestions or experiences welcome .
