IMPETIGO - HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My ds (4) has always had very mild eczema but about 5 weeks ago developed massive scabs on the back of one leg. Took him to docs who prescribed 1 wk antibiotics for impetigo, had to take him back as not really better, then had another 2 weeks antibiotics and cream which seemed to clear it up. Then last week he developed more scabs under his arm so he's now on ANOTHER week of antibiotics.

I'm worried that 4 weeks antibiotics don't seem to have cleared it up. Does anyone else have any exp of this please? Any other remedies I can try as not keen for MORE a/b's. Could it be something else?

Also he now has scars on his leg where the first lot was, will they go?

Thanks xx

A friends son had this problem he had it on his mouth and then it kept spreading up his face. Antibiotics did the job eventually, he has a scar but it's fading. Sorry not much help, but it did take weeks to clear up.

Maybe a health food shop would be able to advise you. Maybe even to take something to help with the large dose of antibiotics. Good luck.

I'm sure you know keeping nails short is important.

I'm wondering if an aromatherapist might help? Look for an IFA registered one.

There is something called Bio Oil that my nurse friend recommends for scar tissue, she used it for healing scars from surgery. My mum swears by Elizabeth Arden's 6 hr Cream (I think that's right) but it costs a fortune!

antibiotics
clean towels everyday
wash all bedding everyday
dettox spray the loo seat after each sitting
dettox spray all handles and switches. spray onto kitchen roll then wipe over any light switches he may have touched

you could also give homeopathic stuff a go....ainsowrths are very good and i ordered something on thursday and it arrived this morning. ring them, tell them his age etc and they will tell you what he needs.

Thanks all. Yes I keep his nails short and he's been amazing at not scratching bless him. It's just worrying that it's still coming up. Also it's meant to be highly contagious but neither me nor his sis have got it at all which I find odd (and until he was properly diagnosed with it I assumed it was eczema so they still had baths together).

Health shop good idea, don't like him being on antibitoics for so long.
