SCARED TO VISIT THE GP

I've been experiencing swelling in my throat for quiet a while (i assume its swelling as that is what it feels like) but the past few days have been unbearable!

Everytime I eat, a little piece of food always gets stuck. I was eating chips last night and I could barely swallow, it was as if they were excessively dry! I was eating them with a dip and frequently sipping water but in the end I gave up.

It's normally just small bits of food that get stuck such as rice and a crumb of biscuit etc... but it's now happening every time I eat!

I really want to see a GP about this due to it getting increasing worse and hard to deal with but I'm so scared that I'll go and catch corona virus!

Has anyone else visited their GP since lockdown? What was it like?

Forgot to add....I am a smoker so don't know if this could be causing it!

GP surgeries are quiet at the moment and many are offering video consultations. This is a symptom that shouldn't be ignored. I know it's scary, but make an appointment today and that's a great first step.

I work at a GP practice & we are doing appointments by telephone/video first, then the GP decides whether the patient actually needs to come in to be examined - very few do. Anyone with a cough or high temp is not allowed to visit the practice, all prescriptions are being sent direct to the pharmacies, and sick notes etc are being posted. The waiting room has been rearranged to allow for social distancing, and everything is being regularly disinfected.

So actually, it is a pretty safe place to be! Please just ring your GP practice & take it from there.

Could be thrush. I had the same a few years a go, couldn't swallow dry foods or solids. I think it's more common if you smoke too.

You should definitely give them a call. They might do a video or phone consultation.

I went last week for newborns jabs. Totally empty. Dr was in full PPE.
