I woke up a few days ago and had the awful spinning sensation. It stopped after about 30 seconds but when I rolled over it started again.
It's ok once I stand up although I don't feel normal and I wouldn't want to walk far or drive.
I've tried the Brandt Darroff exercises and they are manageable apart from first thing in the morning when they make me feel ready sick. I'm going to try and persevere.
The doctor has given me pills to treat the symptoms.
Is there anything else I can do? I have to shop for loads of elderly family and neighbours. Any help would be amazing.

From my experience, it needs medication. I think this is because it’s triggered in part by damage to the hair follicles which contributes to making it more than just the woozy feeling. There are lots of different types though so maybe try different ones. IME it only gets worse without medication

Try the Epley Manoeuvre, it is similar to what you have done already. Helps if you have a partner who can move your head and look for eye movements.
There are a few You Tube videos demonstrating,

@glitterbiscuits Thanks so much I'll have a look.
@Trolltoes I will look into what's available. Thanks.

You have my sympathy OP. I've had it twice in the last year or so.
It's quite debilitating.
One one occasion the Epley manoeuvre worked immediately.

I had anti nausea tablets off the GP which helped a tiny bit.

Let me know how you get on.

I developed vertigo after a common cold, it hung around for a couple of years too. Had Epley manoeuvre etc and they didn't help much, unfortunately. I found driving last Chevrons (the white lines you see in your peripheral vision), trees with the sun shining through the and supermarkets my main triggers. I once ran out of a supermarket, dumping my trolley, to be sick.

I did find some medication helpful but what eventually seemed to help me was stopping the medication - it was as if it helped to begin with but then exacerbated my symptoms. I tried everything from antihistamines to a tablet you put between your lip and gum.

You have my utmost empathy OP, it sucks balls.

@glitterbiscuits Did the doctor do the manoeuvre?
I know I can't face the other excercises again they make me feel so awful.

@pooopypants That sounds grim. I'm ok until I go to bed. I've just unloaded the dishwasher and made lunch. But when I lay down for the first 30 seconds it's grim.

Did the Dr ever suggest antibiotics? If it's an inner ear infection?

@Bestbe No, I got DH to help with it.
We watched a couple of You Tube videos!
We also got the Brandt exercises on a sheet.
Epley was better.
I also had the swimming head when I first laid down.

DH said he could see my eyes dart about when he did the manoeuvre the first time.

You have my every sympathy OP, vertigo is truly awful, I suffer with it a lot due to my disability. See your GP for a check up. I hope you feel better soon.

It's really just my right side. I feel a lot of pressure in the ear. Blooming annoying. People pay to get this sensation in theme parks all over the world.
I've managed to do lots today. So long as I give up laying down I can survive.

I've got Ménière's disease - I can get sudden, unexpected vertigo attacks that can last for days. I've had a lot of falls and 'drop attacks'. The only thing that's helped in steroid injections directly into my inner ear.

You have my sympathies. It's bloody horrible.

@iklboo That sounds grim. The injections sound awful

It's quite painful my ear now. Not enough to take pills but lots of strange pressure. Like it needs to pop.

Ooh yes I get that too but it won't 'pop'. Any tinnitus? You might have labyrinthitis. Maybe check back with your GP. What meds are you on?

In the past I have had BPPV and went through 2 weeks of awful Brandt daroff exercises that made me feel awful every day as advised by my GP. Next time I did some reading and saw those exercises are outdated and the Epley or BBQ roll can bring an instant solution. I usually do an epley myself by lying on the floor and it usually works. If your vertigo is BPPV I highly recommend, and there’s a BPPV Facebook group with loads of advice X

That's really weird OP, I woke up on Tuesday morning with exactly the same thing. I think I'd overdone the yoga the previous evening.

I managed to self-diagnose myself with BPPV and managed to get a chiropractor appointment for the Thursday - anyway turned out not to be that and he'd put me right within about 20 minutes.

I've never seen a chiropractor before and never had any kind of medical intervention that was so quick to sort out my symptoms!

You may be able to find someone open in your local area - but if not and you're near me SE Bucks, I can recommend him.

@iklboo Ive been trying to get it to pop. I can't hear a lot out of it. What do they give you for labyrinthitis?
The doctor gave me Cinnarizine.
It’s more painful tonight but not acute pain.

@itchychin The Brandt thing wasn’t too bad yesterday but when I did it this morning I felt dreadful for about two hours afterwards.
I am going to look at the Epley. I’ve not heard of the other one. I’ll google.

I’ve got Ménière’s disease too. It truly sucks. The longest vertigo attack I had lasted for 17 hours. It was horrid. You have my sympathy Bestbe.

I get it occasionally and it seems to be triggered by lack of sleep for me. I generally need to sleep extra few hours to sort it out.

Cawthorne Cooksey exercises worked for me. I had an inner ear infection initially which triggered the vertigo. It was severe and I struggled to function. Then I found a vestibular physio who worked with me on those exercises and it did the trick. The main thing though is it's normal to feel slightly worse before you get better, that's the brain compensating. Don't be afraid of it and try and do as many normal things as possible like putting washing in the machine, lots of bending about and when you're out walking keep looking around you, all these things will help your brain to compensate quicker. Good luck, it's pretty miserable and I had it for six months before I sought help.

Have you tried the epley manoeuvre- really helped me when I had it.

I’m
SO sorry OP - it’s the worst feeling in the entire world and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Get well soon!
