Irregular periods after depo shot wears off

Hi girls I'm not sure if you've read my past story on being on the depo shot and struggled to get a period for a long time. I finally got one 3 weeks ago for 3 days and then another last Tuesday for 5 days. I have stomach cramps again. I know myself they are going to be irregular as it takes a while to get your natural cycle back but did anyone else have this same issue ??Hmm

Took me longer to get a normal cycle to return than it did to lose the 4 stone I put on whilst on the depo! Bleeding went from nothing and very short light irregular bleeds every now and then (no discernible cycle) to 23 days at a time, two weeks off then another month of relatively heavy bleeding. All in all I would say 18 - 24 months before things got back to a normal, sensible cycle. I don’t know if anyone who has had a good experience on the depo.. sorry it’s not a more positive story Flowers

Oh god that sound horrendous! At first I was excited because I thought there was something wrong with me as I hadn't had one in so long and had severe abdominal pain and went for us scan etc. When I first got them was so excited and then they came back 2 weeks later and they are just getting annoying now 😂 feel like rubbish constantly with cramps and sleepy.

You'll probably agree with me but never ever ever will I go back on that shot! Made me crazy and now I feel like the exorcist is leaving my body slowly but surely ahaha 😂😂

Mine returned to normal fairly quickly both times, but both times I was also breastfeeding so I don’t know if that helped or hindered it. All in, it was back to normal about 5 months after stopping the second time and about 3 months the third time.

The first time I came off it I got pregnant before my periods started, but I was clearly ovulating 7 weeks after it stopped.

Oh that is so strange how you fell pregnant and then got your period off the depo but I love it! I'd love to have another. My boy has just turned 2 and would love another. How did you find out you were pregnant while still bleeding because automatically you'd just think that's the injection leaving you and because you have a period wouldn't think you were pregnant. I'd love to hear your story. I love hearing little surprises like this ❤️

I’m always the positive depo story on here! I came off it and had 3 children in 5 years, and was on depo in between all of them. There is almost exactly 5 years between my biggest and smallest, with a bigger age gap between 1 and 2 than 2 and 3! As I said, I found out I was pregnant the first time 7 weeks after my last injection. I wasn’t still bleeding - I’d had no bleeding at all from coming off it to getting pregnant the first time.

I only found out I was pregnant because I felt really weird and generally unwell and decided to do a pregnancy test so I could tell the dr when I went that I wasn’t pregnant (because I knew they would ask!) and I was!

Second time around i was properly tracking and trying. It was over Christmas and we were away so my period was 3 days late when I tested.

3rd time I was putting a display up at school and as I leaned into the wall my boobs brushed against it and were so painful that I thought “I’ve been here before!” Grin

Aw I love this story! So happy that's the way things happened for yous. I've heard lots of really negative stories after coming off of it but this has just gave me a little positive vibe 💖💖

I came off the depo in November my period came back December along with spotting throughout the month, I’m now on day 14 of my period! They’ve given me non hormonal tablets to help the bleeding but they didn’t work. Any ideas on things to help your cycle? Feeling fed up!

The three times that I've come off the depo (was a long time in between) it has always taken 5/6 months for periods to come back properly.

I’m now on day 22 of my period, it seems to be more like spotting now but still enough to wear a of. How long will this go on for?
