Post wearing Spanx problems

I've worn some kind of Spanx for at least 25 years. I'm quite overweight and is holds my tummy in place, it's almost a safety blanket now as I'm past the point of them holding in everything completely without not being able to breathe so it's just a bit of support.

Now I haven't had to go out for a couple of weeks and have worn very casual clothes and have given the spanks a break. This is when my stomach problems have begun. Aching, bloating, pain and a general uneasiness. I think it's because I'm not wearing the Spanx. Anyone else had anything similar to this ?

Hopefully someone who wears them and stopped will reply but i wonder if your are eating more now as the spanx would have restricted your stomach space somewhat..i also wonder if its reduced exercise or changes in diet.

Thankyou for replying.
I'm not eating more than usual. I am moving less. My stomach now feels much better since I've gone back to wearing my 'big girl pants'. Looks like I'm stuck with them, it has made me wonder what I've done to my internal organs.

Hi @loopykay your question about Spanx reminds me of a colleague I had some years ago... she had gastric problems after going on holiday for 3 weeks and forgot to pack them!

She was quite overweight but also worried if she had done damage to her internal organs etc after wearing Spanx for about 20 years. Because of her gastric problems she was eventually referred to a gastroenterologist.
He did some tests including a scan and said she had a lot of extra internal fat around her liver and other organs which was kept compressed and controlled in a way for years with use of Spanx. Then it was suddenly let loose on holiday which brought the problems with the fatty organs to the surface. It was a good thing for her as she was told fatty organs would cause a lot more damage in the long term then any amount of years of wearing Spanx.

She was given an exercise and eating plan and lost weight gradually over a year and the best thing was it lowered her blood pressure and cholesterol and she didn't have to wear Spanx anymore! BTW anyone can have fatty organs even someone who's a size 8 so people don't have to necessarily be overweight.

As you are overweight you need to be careful you were wearing the right size (they go by weight not waist size). If too small they can weaken your core with long term use. Suggest yoga moves designed to strengthen the core / pelvic floor (planks are really good for example).

Crikey, how tight are these things? Confused. For sure, very tight corsets might do your innards a mischief, but they’re a long way from control pants. If you are getting stomach pains, it may be from some other cause. Have you changed anything else about your diet or activity lately? (Present situation notwithstanding).
