I have atypical facial pain, for many years. Triggered by various things, lately it’s mainly sensitivity from exposed roots on my back teeth, which refers round my weak spots and causes pain in my teeth, then headaches. I usually go to my dentist who puts some desensitising gel stuff (tastes nasty) on my roots and that clears it up and the pain goes down quickly. However I have tried to get an appointment with my dentist and he has cancelled it saying it is not an emergency. However I am now in a lot of pain, sleeping is difficult, last night I didn’t get to sleep until 3am. I have handled chronic pain for many years, I know when it is at it’s worse and when it’s at a level I can function with, right now it’s very painful. What I want to know is what is it dentists put onto exposed roots, can I buy it online and treat myself? Or should I try another Dentist? I’m very worried about being left for months with this. I am being very careful about social distancing, but I consider this a medical need. I’m using Sensodyne rapid relief but it really only gives a few minutes pain relief, I am using it throughout the day. Paracetamol helps on the headache but not the tooth ache.
