I had a TIA

I'm only 21 and i'm 99% sure the other night i had a mini stroke, at the time i was so confused i wasn't sure what to do so i eventually rang 111 and waited 2 hours and got cut off (i didn't phone 999 because stupidly i believed strokes only happened to elderly people) , managed to get through yesterday morning told me to go straight to a&e when i was there they took an ECG, CT scan and have furthered me onto a TIA clinic to have an MRI in the next few days. The doctor said if i was 70 with all these symptoms they would have diagnosed it straight away but because i'm 21 they have to go through all avenues first.. i get it.. but i also know it wasn't an anxiety attack, it wasn't i migraine. It was something completely different. The doctor said because i have family history of mini strokes at a young age that they would do all these test. I had my daughter three months ago and now i feel like people will think i just can't cope! I'm not even sure why i'm posting this to be honest, i think i just need a hand hold

What a worry for you OP? Are you getting any support from friends or family OP? Having a child is so physically and mentally challenging. X

My family and friends are about an hour away, luckily my mum has taken the baby for a few days so i can 'relax' until my appointment but i just feel like such a failure. I know realistically i'm not but christ it's hard to cope with! I think today the reality just sort of set in that it really happened and i'm feeling mega down. Thank you for both replying!

To reassure my mum had this and has a very strong history of strokes and after loads of investigations was diagnosed with atypical migraine.

The symptoms were exactly like a TIA. Just to show that it doesn't always mean one.

So sorry to hear what you are going through, must have been terrifying.

I know you said it wasn't like a migraine but I'm wondering do you suffer from migraines at all? I only ask as I'm a migraine sufferer and after I had my son I had what I thought was a stroke and it turned out to be a rare type of migraine. Also weirdly strokes run in my family at a young age too so of course I was terrified. Just thought it may be some reassurance for you.

Will let you know what gets said. No, i've had one before and it wasn't anything like this! I could barely speak and when i did the words were not what i was thinking, its like my brain just wasn't connected to my mouth, it was insane! And next no to headache after it happened. I'm hoping everything comes back all clear. Thank you for sharing experience, it's reassuring to hear others x

That's exactly my mum's subprime. She couldn't speak, and when she did it was all the wrong words. No nausea or pain. Also gets visual disturbance.

I get the words thing and it's how DH can tell I'm getting a migraine but then I do get pain.
